I have a chewed up spider-wire coming from the passenger side of my bus. I recently had a visit from Collin and if I remember correctly he said this was the sending wire for my fuel sending unit.

I tried clipping together the brown wire shown in this picture to the chewed up wire coming from the bottom of my bus. Is this correct? If i ground this brown wire it will cause my fuel gauge to move to the full position, but I kill the ignition before it his the full mark.

Is there a way to repair this wire without dropping the engine?

Thanks

Spider wire? Spider wire is fishing line. I'd be careful just hooking up wires without knowing what they are for. There's a good chance you don't need to drop the engine to fix this.

I’m also confused by the spider-wire term. What year is your bus? And please be careful as Dan said.

It’s a 78 bus. I couldn’t tell you the color of the wire coming from what looks like the gas tank. It looks like it has been painted over. The reason I called it spider wire is because it’s a braided cable. The chewed up cable is coming from behind the firewall above the rear passenger side tire.

A "braided" cable would not be stock. Maybe something to do with an added thermocouple or other gauge of some sort.

Well VW only put one wire through that hole, it was brown with a stripe (usually white), has some sort of woodland critter eaten all the insulation off of it?

Its very possible and looks that way. What was the wire that VW ran through that hole for?

gas gauge sender. Pull the tank firewall to see where it goes. Just a few screws and two underneath.
