Do the convertible boot snaps mount to the bottom molding at the base of the top or the snaps go into the body behind the top?

Does that answer the question?

I have a 64 Ghia, I'll post a picture tonight and try to take some measurements for you too.

My 74 has the snaps mounted in the body sheet metal. Don't know whether it came stock that way ot whether a PO did a mod.

Thank you all for the input. Seems most boots mount to the molding.

Peter D. Your mirror does not appear to be in the correct location. See the diagram above.

I had a look at a factory RHD 1967 cabriolet today. It has the tabs on the body but it also doesn't have the wooden tack bow across the back below the rear window. The cabriolet top was held down with a wire that hooked in a folded lip along the back.

1967 was the first year for this top although in the early months there were cars being produced still with the wooden tack bow. I have seen photos of those right here on the Samba.

I think it's fairly safe to say that cars with the tack bow will have the chrome moulding at the bottom edge of the top and the tabs will mounted on that. So that's going to be cars before early '67.
