I was wondering if it gets mounted similar to the VWoA dealer hitches (1st pic). But, I don't see any smaller screws that would go thru the plates and into the body.
Are you going with stainless bumper bolts (carriage bolts) , or are you going to find some NOS chrome bumper bolts to attach it?

Your car should look good with 1 of those Westy trailers hitched up behind it. Cool

If I had to get some - Id get stainless. Im not sure the OG ones will be long enough? I have a couple nos ones Ill try later and or use the ones on the blade now.

I noticed the lack of similar VWoA holes too. Not sure how it will mount just yet.

Jason: I am new here and just found your thread. Really great inspiration for doing my 1964 VW 1500S Notchback, which I am about to start restoring.

Great attention to detail! Congratulations!

Might have to ask Pedro on the mounting plates.
The stock chrome bumper thru bolts will be too short.

I put the trailer hitch on today. So curious little fun fact - when you install a Westfalia hitch to your VW, it makes the whole ass end seem way more substantial. You can now stand on the rear bumper and not bend anything.

So all those stove bolts it came with were not anything needed to do the install for sure. All the OG hardware for the blade was used to put it on the hitch. I did have to get longer mounting bolts to the body.

All in all fit perfect - little snug hence the soft blow hammers. But great looking overall. Cool

VERy tidy. Looks way better than the VWoA version. Guarantee you'll make up a few new swear words the first few times you hit it with you shin.

Laughing Laughing
So, you didn't install the plates?
I didn't think about the hitch having the bumper brackets already installed on it, so the stock bumper bolts should fit.
Learned something new today. Cool

Did you get a flat bed to haul all of those trailers? Or did you sell all but 1 that'll be behind your bus (filled with VW parts)?

I ended up driving the 77 Westfalia with one trailer towed behind it down two months before the big move. Then I had the notch shipped, I then towed the 74 bus behind the UHaul and Stewart is bringing my last - 2nd trailer I have down from Seattle this last week. Lots of logistics to move this crap around Rolling Eyes Neutral

The Notch has been stored at Lee's shop while I organize, get a job and build my own Mad VW Lab. We did get the notch running better - Pedro noticed the distributor in the wrong orientation. It was fixed by moving the distributor drive back one tooth. Now she has power. After taking her out on a power drive - the pull back into the garage yielded an oil leak Rolling Eyes Also the new NAPA battery I bought now does not hold a charge.

Once my shop is done I can have more VWs over to play. One thing I want to add to my notch is a 356 Rally flare - just the wheels. Wink

More fun times!

Went over to Lee’s place today with Jason, to install a new starter.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Got the new starter in but still had a no cranking issue.

So we went off to get a new battery, and came back. Same problem.

Found a couple painted grounds, and the transmission ground strap wasn’t connected. Fixed all that.

Same problem.

Finally took a big drill bit to this starter bushing area here:

And ended up with this result...:
