If it did sell it's now going for $3900:

Still way over priced. It should come with a free tetanus shot!

He told me to make him an offer, but I felt that the disparity of what he was asking vs what I was willing to pay would have been an insult. So I kept it to myself.

It wasn't quite that bad, but I was far closer to your number than even his new number. A low light Ghiapet would REALLY be a kick in the crotch for the purists. Twisted Evil

I think it's those stories where someone finds a Ferrari chassis in a cornfield that is a 1 of 475 serial number...that leads to any rusty old car in a cornfield becoming worth a lot of money.

Except that the Karman Ghia in question here is special.
It is a Low-Nose after all. Prolly was made in Germany besides.

It has a “low nose” beause there’s no longer any metal in it.
You’d need a front end loader, flat shovel, and dump truck to move it

You'd have to go some way to beat taking the 12th oldest known surviving Karmann Ghia and turning it into a golf cart!

On the face of it and from the information supplied this doesn't see like too bad a deal: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2202527

However someone who knows this Ghia, has given me a little insight of what lurks beneath. A previous owner apparently passed this Ghia on because, even for an experienced restorer it was deemed far too much work. Heater channels "toast", patches covered with bondo, lower nose "toast".

So as the seller has said it's cat 4: Fair "Any rust should be minimal and not in any structural areas." This ad is a misrepresentation, at best cat 5: Poor.

I have pictures should anyone need them.

What do you suppose the carb is fighting?

I hate to admit it, but I actually like the cool '80s vibe of that two-tone paint scheme.

If in fact that brand new motor was put together well with quality parts, then at least it would have that much going for it.
However, realistically what are the chances of that? Smile ... and with just a mere 7 miles logged on it so far, it's probably too soon to tell if any assembly/parts problems are still lurking within.

Well... They are on a boxer engine, you know, a push leads to a shove. Laughing

Laughing I thought for sure that link would be to the ad for the Rodbuster Ghia!

... but it's damn close, and the asking price of this one is only roughly a mere 5.5% of the Rodbuster's $250k asking price. Dancing

I LOVE it!

Back in the '80s when it was a hugely popular color, I really liked Hot Pink (or Porsche Raspberry, which sounds a bit more "masculine Smile )
Somewhere on the internet (a Facebook page for '80s VWs photos?), there's even proof in the form of a photo of a young KGCoupe wearing a Porsche Raspberry polo shirt and standing next to a Hot Pink shortened and lowered custom VW Thing taken at a VW car show in Northern Indiana back around 1989.

If you're talking about this one, it made honorable mention in the abortions thread. Laughing

Nope, I'm just the asshole that posted the Offspring reference.

Man, where was that show held? An abandoned warehouse complex?
