Since I got this motor without firing it up yet and just sitting there, the 3-4 side valve cover was leaking. Knowing this, I went ahead and pulled both covers, check valve clearance and use new gaskets to cap them on. Well, I fired up the motor and here's this:
Ended up digging out some old stock covers and bails to stop the leak. Them forkin 'numilum covers are only good for parts cleaner trays!
So I fired it up again... two very big issues came up. Ignition timing is WAY advanced and for it to barely idle the screws have to be almost all the way in!!! A bonus is an extremely wobbly alternator pulley!
I then check exhaust temperature and found out the motor is running on just the 2 and 4 cylinders. Possibly because the timing is way over 30 degrees off at idle.

Looks like sh!t but it's bone dry now!
Other issues of concern.... For a bus, I'd rather have a stock weight flywheel, not a lightened one.
What's up with the jagged edge on this case?
And just exactly what is up with THIS?

Mid mount for a stock bus? Does it help with regular day to day driving? Which one is that? |

Suffice it to say that with it you’ll NEVER have to replace the nose cone mount again! _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

The more I see, the more uncomfortable I am with this one.
Is this an "empi" dipstick?

Not gex, but I’m about done with it! Being one I didn’t build/put together, I don’t want to touch it anymore.
There are other options. _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

After all options were considered... my 1800 stroker will be going into this bus! With a set of new Webers and a USA made Tri-Mill header. _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

This bus is requiring "anchors" for strapping 2 baby car seats. Rather than just bolting "something" through the backboard, I came up with a metal strip welded to the backboard with hooks. It's very similar to what you'd find on newer vehicles.
The "hooks" you see below it were installed by the previous owner for the same purpose. I trust my idea is much safer. The "rings" I used are rated to 300 pounds! _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

Other issues taken care of...
There were 5 holes drilled into the front bumper...
Emblem to go on the smooth front skin...

I offered to powder coat the pop out window frames.
So I came up with this stupid idea of a "rack" so I could do them all in one bake.
Of course, to keep the powdery mess under some sort of control and containment, I had to bring out my Tardis again!
It is a messy job indeed!

Found yet another issue with the "turn key" motor.
Needed a set of J-tubes for the ceramic coated Tri-Mil header and those matched perfect. However, had a bit of a hard time removing them. They both had bolts instead studs for the top and them "compressed" locking nuts for the bottom!
And THIS is why you should never use them nuts unless you don't ever want to take them apart! EVER!
Also, note how short the bolt was!!! Had probably ONLY 3 or 4 threads holding together! _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

Got a new set of Webers and the nice and clean ceramic coated Tri-Mil header installed and fired it up. The 1800 stroker sounds really sweet with that combo!
Verified the jets and the float settings.

Yesterday was a very long day! Had to sourced a few parts for the new phatchick fuel tank install, as well as fabricating a couple of others. Also "had to sacrifice" the og tank for the filler neck.
Back when I installed a phatchick tank in the Dormy, I needed to replace it and the only one I found was a "late" model with the hump. Had such a hard time getting it in place that I had to "squash it" down some. So I had the owner order an early tank, 68 to 70. Well, this one also has a hump but since it is "distributed" through out the width of the tank it seems to be lower than mine. It took some shoving still but in it went and placed itself properly. I used the same straps but had to add extensions to them.

A couple of other "issues" needed to be taken care of prior to installing the motor. First, 2 of the bolts that hold the bumper bracket where so rusted that would not turn, so I had cut them off.
Second, the throw out bearing didn't look healthy so I also replaced it.

Just finished reframing the pop out windows. These are a bish to do without braking any of them! Even with totally new frames!
