I alodined my mag case, then added some clear.seems to be fine.I painted one, it flaked in about 5 years. I did an expearament on painting chrome cly tin, it lasted about 3 years untill it started flaking,I thing a light abrasive blast may work on chrome befor painting.I was wondering if zinc primer mighjt work better on mag cases,Ill try that if I ever build another mag case engine.I like the satin nickel paint, looks more like real cast aluminum and not hammered dog shit. I dont see any down side to painting the case.but you do need to mask & clean it good. |

You can brighten up the magnesium alot with this:
Once a case is fully degreased, spray this on and let it foam up, then spray off. its a very strong "etching" acid made specifically for Mag and Aluminum alloys.
Eagle One Mag wheel Cleaner, at all major Auto parts stores, the strongest stuff available, and it WILL hurt coatings so you know its strong.

I use Gibbs Lubricant spray on my cases (transaxle also) and it really holds up well.
It is not a paint though. |

Have you tried other lubricant than Gibbs? I cannot find that stuff where I live and cannot be shipped via air. |
