My cargo door hinges need to be replaced as they are in bad shape. I found new hinges for sale but need to confirm something.
I see that hinges are attached to the bus with large screws. The door itself seems to be welded into the hinge. Could someone please confirm? If they are welded how does one replace them? Cut and re-weld?
I was hoping both ends have screws 😊

Can you just replace the pins? The hinges can be drilled and oversized pins used if very badly worn.

Edit: yes they are welded

The part you want to remove is held by countersunk rivets.
You might be able to replace with screws?

Just going by what's been done for front doors, using M6x20 flat head countersunk allen screws...

Pull back the door seals and you'll see the screws that need to be removed. You'll need an impact driver to break them free. Any play in the hinge itself should be taken care of as sgellis said.

Gordo.

The original poster is talking door side... not body side.

Understood....just trying to save the body from "chuck rash" as he drills out the pin holes larger.

Gordo.

Oooh... I really don’t like chuck rash. Just thinking about it makes me want to grit my teeth.

Attacking those rivets is definitely a job with the door removed & braced well.

Thank you. I did't realize they are held by Rivets.

I think I was wrong about the hinges being held to the door by countersunk rivets. I was thinking cargo door would be same as cab door.

Regular rivets might be used... I'm not sure. I've never peeled open a cargo door.
From looking at the part of the hinge half inside the door (left half of the hinge in the following pics)... it's not recessed on either side. So, that makes me think regular rivet.

If you need to look for an NOS hinge... I put together the following part number info that will help looking for it.

Looking at cargo doors on the right side of a bus:

Up to chassis No. 20-117 901 (to 2/1955)
081 = Front door
211 841 501 = upper hinge
211 841 541 = lower hinge

091 = Rear door
211 841 531 = upper left hinge
211 841 511 = lower hinge

From chassis No. 20-117 902 up to 705 619 (from 2/1955 to 12/1960)

081 A = Front door
211 841 501 A = upper hinge
211 841 511 A = lower hinge

091 A = Rear door
211 841 531 A = upper hinge
211 841 541 A = lower hinge

From chassis No. 705 620 up to 1 019 924 (from 12/1960 to 10/1962)
081 C = Front door
211 841 511 C = upper hinge
211 841 541 C = lower hinge

091 C = Rear door
211 841 541 C = upper hinge
211 841 511 C = lower hinge

From chassis No. 1 019 925 (from 10/1962)
081 E/F = Front door
211 841 511 C = upper hinge
211 841 541 C = lower hinge

091 E/F = Rear door
211 841 541 C = upper hinge
211 841 511 C = lower hinge
