The plugs look like platinum plugs. The cut wires are for the test port that was a vw tech tool that no one has any more. _________________ 70 fastback automatic 06 invader |

Car im sure needs a ton of work, no more than $1000. Obviously the owner is allowing it go to waste and rot in his back yard. If I was him I'd be happy that someone is willing to get it off of my hands for a grand... that's me, though. |

Well I did haul it out of there for the grand total of eight hundred. This to me seemed a reasonable fair price for a straight dry body. Even thought infamous right side pan aka battery region needs replacement.
Yep the plugs are the platinum one that I cleaned, installed and fired up the engine with them. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

Regular plugs like NGK BR6HS burn better than platinum ones. The smoking might go away to after a few drives on the motor. _________________ 70 fastback automatic 06 invader |

My major concern is being parked for ten years that valve springs being compressed for that length of time is not a good thing. Ask any old school mechanic. So rebuilt heads are for sure going to happen. Since I will be that far into it, piston and cylinders as well. Depending on end play may have to open it up the rest of the way. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

Oh my many reasons why it was parked.
Well cleaned fuel tank, repaired all lights and they all work, windows roll up and down, door weep holes cleaned, fuel sending unit repaired, gas tank cleaned, gauge lights all work, odometer still does not, speeedometer does, greased everything that needs grease, timing would not advance with the distributor so swapped in a German 009, yep the engine still smokes, I was glad to see the horn can be taken apart and repaired now sounds great, emergency hand brake was waky repaired that.
Oh brother still needs floor pan welded in that is happening this week, soon after new muffler. Will remove engine, more then likely will just do a top end rebuild.
Still have lots more to do. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

Sounds like great progress though. Are you still running that Weber? What kind of muffler are you looking to get, stock or aftermarket? What are you going to replace that carb with? Hope you're enjoying the car. _________________ It's not the fall that hurts, it's the sudden stop at the bottom.

Are you still running that Weber? Yes while its in progress.
What kind of muffler are you looking to get? Stock one for sure
What are you going to replace that carb with? Have sourced stock set of dual carbs, linkage, and air cleaner.
Still not actively driving the vehicle while doing the repairs...not insured to drive yet, is registered. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

Right side pan was replaced this week. Turned out fine and dandy. Another reason it may have been parked.
Finished product. Another item checked off the list.

Still attempting to remove this 46mm nut from the heat exchanger as it has suffered rustosis. Just another reason it was parked for ten years. Not surprising and to be expected. The brakes are refreshed, trans oil changed, still waiting engine parts, its a hobby like golf for example. Take my time I only want to do it once.

The carbs had to go to Volksbiz. Glad I did he is the top shelf carb guy. A couple of mechanics looks at them before and said just ad the carb rebuild kit to them. Well I figured new pistons and cylinder, rebuild heads, may as well do the carb also. Take a look at before and after.

ataraxia you had asked "Where are the 'after' pics of YOUR carbs?"
They went from the shipping box to the engine. The after pics of the carbs I think you directed me to them....They, the ones on the engine look as good or better then the photos. I do not intend on removing them to take a photo duh.

Thanx for saving another T3, and for properly getting rid of that weber!
I say properly with the exception of that throttle linkage return spring rigging - That is a full throttle disaster waiting to happen! _________________ 1972 SquareBack.....recycled back to life......

The pictures you posted are of carburetors I had rebuilt over 2 years ago - so, naturally, I found it odd that you copied them from my gallery, saved them to your own gallery and posted them as your own photos.
If you're going to swipe pics from the gallery at least be transparent about it.

And proper except the gawddamn fasteners, nipples, butterflies and levers/ linkages should be yellow cad and not silver, but I won't bring that up. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

RAIDER SS I have sourced springs since the photo was taken...I am aware of the full wide open throttle.
Resurrecting this has been a learning experience for an upright engine guy. Always willing to listen to suggestions on how to make it correct and better. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.
