I'm more of a lurker but I thought I'd post some pics of my progress on my 65 pan.
Little background on the pan- I received it with no floors as they were cut out except for the peddle area. It had an engine fire, so the back needed some cleaning. Parking brake cables and brake hoses were cut like a junkyard was ripping everything apart.
I started with a set of floors I found locally, they're a little thin but the price was right.
Some test fitting.
Once the floors were in a made a little rotisserie with 2 engine stands.
Pulled it out in the driveway to weld in the new parking brake bracket and weld up a patch in the tunnel.
Made if a lot easier to strip the old paint.
And then to paint, used Eastwood Chassis Black.
Once painted and seam sealed the 2 1/2" narrowed beam with adjusters was mounted. All new brake lines/ hoses and master cylinder were installed. New fuel line, heater, clutch and throttle cables were installed. New parking brake cables were installed but they were too long so I pulled them out and ordered the correct ones. Ground the tranny for a 12V flywheel and mounted a 1600 just to see. New shift coupling and shaft bushing then mounted the shifter with a shift kit.
Shop inspector checking it out
Tonight I put in the clutch cable boot and adjusting nuts on, installed the brake line and positive cable bushings. Also pulled the 1600 as I'll probably put the 40hp in once it's done.
Plan is to have it on the road in the spring. |

Do you have a title for that pan? If not, you wasted a bunch of time. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

Pruneman99 - Body needs some work but has a good patina that I like
TDCTDI - Wouldn't have done any work without a title |
