The car is a ‘52. There are two brackets mounted under the fuel tank. One is on the firewall and the other is on the inner quarter panel. Each bracket is mounted with two large bolts.

No idea why they where added but they do not belong there.
Remove and forget them.

Just on the one side, right? No idea what they were for! Very heavy duty brackets but not much room for anything big once the tank is there. Strange!

I agree, cut 'em out.
