Guys,
Were the Pre A Porsche 356 16 " rims identical to the early VW ones or was there some kind of a difference between them?
They also seem to come in several different styles, solid and slotted, probably depending on the various manufacturers like KPZ, Sudrad, Lemmerz and Kronprinz, where they all used equally on both 356 and VW at the time of the early fifties?
Having a hard time getting grip of the early wheel use.
I know starting 1960 only KPZ and Lemmerz supplied wheels for Porsche.

Hi Dennis,
the early 356 wheels were solid like their VW equivalents. The cars of this era quite often have the trim rings on the wheels so the steel wheels are hiding behind them. VW wheels were 3" for the beetle and 3.5" for the bus, never 3.25". There are references that Porsche would have used 3.25" solids but to my knowledge 3.25" came with the slots and solids were 3" as in VW. However, there were other brands like Opel and Skoda who did run similar wheels from same brands and those were 3.25"
From '52 to '55 the slotted 3.25" version was used. When A model was introduced for '56 Porsche went to 15" diameter on wheels.
