Priest grade put my Toyota Yaris in shame. That’s a steep friggin’ grade!

What is going on with that zero compression? Shocked

You know that Yosemite takes more than a few hours to appreciate, right?

We just spent about a day and a half visiting Olympic NP and traveling the peninsula. I could spend the rest of my life in the San Juans surving on poutine and would enjoy it. How the heck did 38* in Yosemite beat your PNW ass like that?! Razz

I will go back to Yosemite when I get married and enjoy it with the future wife. By myself I wasn’t real eager to explore and the busted engine wasn’t helping.

Funny story I forgot my buddy heater so I had stock heat only! I’ve snow camped without a heater before and I have all that gear with me too...not THAT bad...just had a colder face in the morning then I expected!

And no idea what lost the compression. Maybe I floated a valve and it hit and I bent one? There’s no sign of extra crankcase pressure with bad rings, and the valves readjusted just fine no sign of them pulling through. No head gasket noise either from a leaking head...all I can suspect is a bent valve head. Driving it anyways, it’s not getting worse very fast and I’m driving it fairly hard kinda. I think I’ll make it to San Diego fine, making it back north may take a while but I should at least get close.

Left the national park and headed south ish towards Fresno, then Bakersfield. Made it to my cousins place and her new husband, hung out for the day and then left early in the morning for LA.

Hit the sunrise right around Mojave and fueled up. Had to get the snow pants out for the second morning...twas cold!! 34* in the high desert!

Enjoyed just rolling down a long empty highway for a few hours. Totally legit, no matter how slow it goes uphill, it still makes the memories and the engine is becoming less and less of a worry in my mind. Just putting up with it being slow for now!

Met up with my uncle for lunch!

Then made it from Orange County to Riverside to my grandpas place!

Getting along in life I enjoy every time I see him and our time together more and more. He’s one of those guys who if we were close in age, we would likely be very good friends in life Cool

Decided to drive on out to Vegas Friday evening, as I have some friends In Town that I wanted to see and connect with. So I did!

Should be headed out around Monday morning or evening, and will be spending a few days back in riverside with grandpa helping him with stuff on his cars and his house, then my uncle for a day or two to hit the beach with a surfboard.

Then maybe I’ll go give Jason his trailer back Laughing

Thee are a bunch of things that a Grandpa could learn from you, if he can put aside nostalgia and history for a bit,

There’s a ton of things that can go the other way, too.

Very Happy

Jason, please make him resolve the zero pressure in that cylinder before he goes anywhere else. Fold him up and put him in the trailer if need be!

I remember when Murrieta was not even a pee stop. Seems like yesterday. Next thing you know, Winchester will have a gated community.

Went for a drive in the 77 westy with Jason through a sweet canyon, and saw the San Diego safari from the street. Looked like a sweet place to go check out someday!

We went and got some lunch...killer carne asada burritos!

We come outside and Jason’s engine won’t stay running. It’s been dying repeatedly as I’m fine tuning his AFM for his 2.3l camper special...come to find out (thankfully first guess) it was simply out of gas. So we hooked my tow rope up and I dragged him with my 2.5 cylinder engine (what’s left of it) to the nearest gas station!

After that, I Went and got some solar goodies I’ll bring up later from Chris, who I’ll be meeting with Monday about his sweet 77 and a 71 westy tin top his mom drove off the dealer floor...should be a fun Monday Smile

Then met with Seth, who’s going subaru. His well documented engine is going to end up in my van...likely before I get back to Seattle. So there Steve Razz

Ten minutes later we made it to Gary’s...!

You meet the nicest people in a Honda Acura.

Pro tip. It’s easier to tow gas home than a car to a gas station
