Recently sold something the the classified ads here. Normally things go pretty well... but this one sell.
Buyer asks for a shipping quote to NC and provides a zip code. No address.
I provide shipping quote
Money is sent. In the Paypal it states "Ok to ship to..." with an address in Florida. (At the time I honestly didn't even notice the different state)
Of course buyer contacts me saying I shipped to wrong address.
So my dilemma is this.. Pay him back and eat the whole deal?
Keep the money and tell him it was his fault (I hate a bad review) _________________ 1969 Transporter

I wonder if you could contact the other shipping address and communicate the mistake... could be able to work it out and re-ship the item. |

Fact of the matter is that when PayPal is used, the agreement is that you ship to the address provided by PayPal, otherwise, *if* your buyer just so happens to be a scammer, he claims "item not received" and gets his money back and you lose because you didn't ship to the address in PayPal.
Theoretically, you would have seen the address discrepancy and refunded the buyer, telling him to change the address or add the second address to PayPal, and then re- pay.
But then, how much hand holding should a seller have to do? Making sure buyers know their own address and that they have a safe place to receive parcels is out of the seller's control.
Where is the parcel on the shipping route? If it's already delivered there isn't anything you can do but if it shows enroute you can recall it (a fee will apply). At that point I'd refund the buyer less shipping cost and recall fee and ask them if they want to try again with the correct address this time.
If the parcel has already been delivered to the PayPal verified address, even if this guy tries an "unauthorized use" chargeback, you're covered by PayPal if you shipped to the PayPal address. If you hadn't you'd be screwed.
If he posts a negative review, I'd just counter with the facts in a calm way. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Definitely DO NOT try to contact the shipper and have the parcel re-routed. That's more headache for you and also going to cost money (do you think the buyer is going to pony up for the difference?)
I had this happen in the past, when someone paid with Paypal but requested the item be shipped to a different address. As Tram points out, sellers should work with buyers to a point; however, you can't and should not do everything for them, nor should you be at their beck and call. You're not in the wrong, but be prepared should the buyer try to pull some sort of scam or negative review. _________________ West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, 319 U.S. 624 (1943) |

you say he provided a NC zip code for a shipping quote??
I assume he provided a full NC address to ship to as well??
BUT, it sounds like buyer paid through paypal and provide a shipping address to FL along with that payment.
ALL you have to do is make sure you can show package was delivered to the address provided with payment (FL) and your in the clear with paypal.
It's the buyers fault for not clarifying shipping address along with the paypal pmt.
shipping to another address other than listed with paypal payment will only open the door for you to loose parts and money for a false claim of "did not recieve" |

He never provided an actual address in NC. I have the full email, the receipt from paypal when he paid (showing "OK to ship to: Full florida address)
The package was already dropped off. Smells kinda fishy to me. _________________ 1969 Transporter

Yepper ^^^^^^^^^^
I have over 270 deleted/old ads, all cash or money order, in every ad it says NO PAYPAL at least 2x, yet many buyers ask for my Paypal info...
Maybe it cuts down on the number of buyers, but if you want the part, you will deal with getting a Money order....
Good luck solving this deal gone bad, I hope it works out for you. _________________ Tom

When you stated the buyer said you sent it to the wrong address, is the NC address also his? What affiliation does he have with it? Is it a secondary address still legally his? I agree with all here that he is responsible for updating his info with Paypal. But in his defense, I'm pretty sure I would have noticed the discrepancy and have contacted them BEFORE shipping. _________________ '63 Ragtop |

He claims the address on Paypal is his old address. He now lives in NC. _________________ 1969 Transporter

Exactly when did you ship the package to the FL address and who did you use USPS, UPS, FedEx? It can take a couple weeks to forward a package to a new address or return it to the original sender. Did you clearly put your return address on the package. How much money we talking about here? _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

Did you log the tracking number in Paypal? That's the best thing you can do to reduce the chances of a dispute being ruled in favor of the buyer. _________________ West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, 319 U.S. 624 (1943) |

It will only cost you 50 cents to write a letter and mail it to the address the package was shipped to and ask if they still have it or what they did with it. You may not learn anything but for 50 cent stamp you didn't loose anything for
trying. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

You could pay just a few bucks, and send a letter with signature required and confirmation. That way you know who is accepting mail or packages there, so you know who has the goods.
Have you google-mapped the address, maybe even street view, to see what's there?
Any Sambanistas in the area who could do some recon for you? |
