Oh shit yeah. This pic speaks volumes. I don't
even need to add the one with the vert rubber latches above this that is A typical of a VW Vert. Torsion rigidity was a concern for sure.

That door detail is amazing. I had no idea they were so different from the standard notch doors. Explains a lot. Thanks for posting. |
Agreed on the doors.
Pat, love that you got some shots of the rocker-sill area, as that's definetly different from a "standard" type 3.
More pics please. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I uploaded them to the gallery and edited my previous post.
Added 15 more while I was doing that. Sorry for the bad pics, this was 1995ish before digital cameras and I'm no "photographer".
Lockable front hood release:
Somebody broke the visor off at the Essen show. It was sitting in the front seat.
Was in a fender bender at one point, bumper bracket was still bent.
Vent tube was welded to the body and painted. No idea why.
Still had the correct early hood with no prop rod provision.

Very cool, thanks for posting. Was this car was making the show circuit back in the mid 90's or was it a one-time-only event? _________________ 1969 Squareback, 1776cc

Does anyone know of an after sales conversion being done in Australia in the early 1970s. I have bought a 1974 convertible notchback with no history. The doors have no windows, the window slots are neatly welded over and the roll over bar looks to be made from galvanised steel pipe. I don’t think it was a backyard job because I have seen others advertised. All seem to be originally from Perth in Western Australia |

Pictures tells the truth. If you can post some pictures of your 'vert Notchback, then, we can know whether the same is a conversion or the real deal.

Not surprising, since Type 3 production ended by late 1973... |

This sounds more like a conversion that someone (maybe even a company) might have done in the 70's. No idea of who might have been doing it though.
Can you post some pics of it? I'd love to see them. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
