I cut out the 2 seatrails from my old pan .
I' m'looking at them now and I wonder if I should try to remove the old panmetal which is at the bottom.
I' m afraid if I will try to seperate them I will destroy the rails themself.
Is it possible to weld the rails on the new pan with the old panmetalon the rails?
I hope my question is clear.
Greetings
In fact I have the same question about the 2 jack points

I understand your staements to be as follows: The old pan metal is still attached to the seat rails and the jack points; you cut around the parts rather than detaching them from the pan. My answer is based on this assumption.
Although possible, I would not recommend it. The best way I can think of to line up the seat rails is to mount them to the seat, place the seat where you want it, then mark the pan or tack weld the rails to the pan. This will ensure the seat will mount properly once the rails are welded in. make sure to test fit the seat during the welding process. If you plan to disassemble your seats to restore and/or paint the frames, use only the unupholstered/bare seat bottom frame to do your alignment. Mounting the seats and the jack points with old pan metal attached will cause alignment issues and will reduce the strength of the mount joints. The most effective way to remove the rails and jack points from the pan is to drill the spot welds from the pan side leaving the seat rails and jack points undamaged.

Carefully grind the spot welds away from the old pan side of the tracks so that you don't damage the tracks. When fitting the tracks back to the new pan, Mount the tracks into the seat & use the seat as the jig to ensure correct alignment, then mark an outline of where the tracks need to be, remove the seat & drill holes in the pan that you will plug weld/rosette weld the tracks onto the pan. Reinstall the seat & track, & tack weld it in place & then remove seat & continue welding tracks to the pan.
I chose to mount the tracks before installing the pans, it sucks to weld above yourself.

If you first weld the rail to the pan is there when the pan is on it's place enough room between the rail and the tunnel to weld the pan on the tunnel? |

Yes there is, I spot welded the seat rails to the pans then plug welded the pans to the tunnel no problem. _________________ 1962 Karmann Ghia

can someone give me the measurements where to weld the tracks?
especially from tunnel to seat rail beginning rail and end rail in mm's or inches
distance from back seat plate to ending of the rail
this for an early ghia 1963
I looked allready at the forum but most of them is for later ghia's
just to be sure I don t have problems later with installing carpet etc...
thanx in advance |

I’d be happy just finding a source for some reproductions.
I ground mine off when I decided to put in aftermarket seats.
Now I think I want to put the stock one back in. (Next Summer) _________________ Volkswagen!
