Hey All, first post on here...
I bought a great body 73 Westfalia camper that didn't run and sat for 10 years. Had a mechanic in Nashville, TN working on it since July. I live in PA. I was hoping to be able to drive it home but the CB performance fuel injection system is giving him trouble on a Mark Stephen's 2.3L hot rod engine. He can't do anymore as we both were not expecting the amount of work involved. <- I also realize how ridiculous that sounds.
I need a mechanic or a VW angel in the Nashville area that can take a look and give me some advice/help. Needs shocks, tires, fix fuel injection or carb swap. Probably more but just need to get her on the road so I can feel her out from there.
I should also mention that I can't really do the heavy work myself, so would still need a mechanic back home.
I had a crazy dream and this dream is turning into a pricy nightmare. Hoping for a miracle here. Thanks!

Welcome to The Samba.
Your cheapest solution if you have a truck would be to drive to Nashville, rent a U-haul car trailer and bring it home. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

If you haven't ever driven it.. that's one heck of a first road trip to break! I mean take!
Even having a mechanic go over it thoroughly you'll still run in to things that need attention and a long road trip home is not the place you want to find out someone forgot to tighten something, or a part gives out. I recommend getting a rollback.. beam tow bar... trailer.. anything, just get it home without worrying about its own power yet. _________________ Robert in Memphis

Hey
Like you I am new to classic VW ownership and the Samba Forum. I'm finding this forum really great for learning about the care and feeding of our Bugs. I'm located in Cookeville and had a hard time finding a shop here in TN that had a proven ability to deal with these old VW's.
When I got my '63 Beetle, it had some shifting and starting issues. I eventually found Elite Automotive located close to Sparta, TN.
They corrected my car's issue and I'll be going back to them now for all my car's work. They are about 80 miles from the Nashville airport so depending on where you are located, this may be further than you want. But I can confirm they know what they are doing when it comes to our old VW's.
Good luck with your search. |
