just to update the post

Here are a number of options, much cheaper than previously listed.

https://www.amazon.com/MOTOPOWER-MP69003-Cigarette...1&th=1

https://www.amazon.com/Cllena-Motorcycle-Powerlet-...1&th=1

Looks like you can get up to 12 ft of cable on some options or even replace the plug, which will then have a black cap, blending in with the dash.

Hi,
Thank you for the great job. I have just purchased my first 1975 VW Bus, with a type 4 engine. I am in the process of restoring it.
I do not know what the plug(?) in the picture is for?

Now the gray on those nearly match those OEM VW solar panels VW offered for your silver socket. Do you have pics of your new one? Smile

The M/W logo is from Merit-Werk Merten GmbH & Co KG, Gummersbach, Germany... nice classic accessory ...
I know them from old position lights (red/white or single side only white) for cars (not bay window) and caravans...

I prefer a more static map light from Hella:

I'm bumping this thread to share this power cable for the silver socket I found at Bus Depot.

The Westfalia map lights are way cool.

This is a nice charger accessory for the DIN plug. Shows voltage too.
