I decided I would get the '60 DD panel running again this weekend. I got the battery charged, put in a new carb, some fresh gas, hit the key... and all I got was a sort of a "grunt" out of the starter and that was it. A 12v battery with a 6v starter should turn way better than that. So I decided to pull the starter, which took about an hour and half: the top engine bolt was stuck and I ended up breaking one the starter's mounting ears getting it loose. Then to make things even more interesting, a throwout bearing clip came out with the starter.

Bitter sweet to post anything happy about my bus or anything for that matter with the horrible news in California. But maybe a little good news will keep us strong so we can help our friends in Paradise, CA.
My Westy Poptop fits in the garage with a few inches to spare. Note a little help with the 2x4 propping the door a bit higher.

Have you considered simply starting with a nicer bus? I don't know what your skills are, but the race is easier if you can see the finish line. If you are not a runner, don't start off doing a marathon. |

I've been getting the front doors straightened out on the '57 deluxe. The original doors had rotted out, been half-ass repaired, and then rotted out again. I had a nice set from a bus I parted out years ago. The funny thing was, I had schlepped them to Bug-O-Rama a couple times but wasn't able to sell them, probably due to my sky-high price of $20 each. They still had the faded masking tape price tags on them.
So far all I've done is mead-blast them, weld up a couple of pinholes, re-tacked some of of the inner support that had popped loose, replace the mirror arms, did a slight tweak on the upper hinges and replaced one of the lower pins with a 1st-oversize. I have some more hinge tweakage and a bare minimum of body work and they're ready to go.

Lines look great, Thom. Many strive for that and still can’t get it just right. Well done. And $20? I gotta leave my spot next time haha French press coffee and bacon keep me tethered haha oh and not having my junk jacked haha _________________ ,,Wenige Menschen denken, und doch wollen alle entscheiden.'' -der Alte Fritz

Did you pay the guy the $40 or just ignore him. On a bus that valuable those doors aught to be happy to be hanging there all perfected. |

After a week of front end work (drag link, tie rods, damper, shocks, link pin adjust, entire front beam grease, center pin) and an engine oil leak fix...My son and I got the 58 out for a days worth of driving on a beautiful 55 degree day in the Midwest today....Nice and tight now!

Looks like I will need to do a Lind "MC Hammer" on the top hinge, but overall, not bad for a test-fit.

Sano looking engine build. I've gone with and without the generator air cover. Can you say what is your opinion? |
