Hey Everyone,
I've been searching for a while now, but I can't seem to find the specific information I'm looking for. I'm simply looking for the dimensions on beetle link-pin and ball-joint front beams, and Thing front beams, torsion arms, etc. As in, from center to center of the torsion tubes of the beams. If my research did me any justice, king-pin tubes are 5.5" center to center, and ball-joint and thing tubes are 6" center to center? I'm also looking for the lengths of the upper/lower torsion arms. As well as center to center of the link-pins and ball-joints. I'm doing some brainstorming and was thinking of converting my link-pin to a thing beam in my 61 Baja. But want to know what I might be getting into so I can plan accordingly. I was also thinking that maybe replacing the frame head on my 61 with that from a 66 or later, might be the easiest way to go.
If anybody can point me in the right direction, that would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill |

A "Thing" Beam is the same as a std Ball Joint with the exceptions of having a gusset on the shock towers, the only differences are the spindles and the arms.
Why would you want to convert your 61 to a Ball joint style front beam? you can get a lot more travel from a Link Pin front end.

For decades, most everybody else has been going the opposite way you are seeking to go. Why go backwards? Is it just for the lift? Will this car be used off paved roads? OR is this a for show "offroader"? The lift could be achieved by using combo lift lift spindles on a link pin suspension. _________________ Richard
