SWR W/T Kombi ... One of my favorite seldom seen configurations in a bus. These don't come up for sale very often. Needs a ton of work, but would definitely turn the heads of bus nerds everywhere IMO...Think it wouldn't?

I know it's rough but I think this is a great deal compared to what some are asking for hacked panel projects.
Gerson will probably make more off the replacement metal than the bus. But still not a bad deal. If I had less projects I would go for it.

Whoa sheesh. It's almost like if Gerson doesn't want the super-high-dollar-final-finished-value of a Wolfsburg 23-window then, "There's your sign". |

Wont it be a "Golfsberg" or a "Wearson" 23 window after its repaired? _________________

About time someone thought so. If this was a barndoor deluxe at 4 times the price, no one would complain. But will that barndoor deluxe restored bring 4 times the price of this restored? No!
From watching I haven't seen a barndoor deluxe bring much more than the highest dollar 62-63 deluxe. |

At least one has, I think several have surpassed it.
They changed hands without any sort of online listing. |
I'm sure. I would love to know what the hornbecker deluxe last changed hands for. I bet even it didn't sale for 4 times the highest late model 23 has. In my opinion it should. |

The real question here is how many 55-58 23 windows have been sold in excess of $200K. Sure this bus is a metal man special....yet to be correctly restored, with all the spot welds in the correct position, seams on the seats and headliner correctly sewn, correct parts and numbers matching engine, trans beam, etc, etc, etc....years worth of work and 10's upon 10's of thousands of dollars. _________________ Transporter Restorations

True, it seems like the Barndoors go to crazy collectors willing to pay and the 60s 23s/21s have hit high prices on auctions but 55-58s have not have a big sale AFAIK _________________ How to Post Photos

This makes no sense to me. That one early 56-57 that was auctioned a year or two ago. Looked beautiful, brought $90,000 or $95,000. From the footage looked very nice. |

I think the later color schemes are more pleasing to eye for a lot of people. _________________ How to Post Photos

Thats definitely part of it. The other part is most auction buyers aren't VW hardcore enthusiasts. They don't get why we obsess over barndoors, Wolfsburg built vs Hanover, original taillights, reflectors, rare colors, etc. They are looking for something they can relate to, had a personal childhood memory of, or what is trending for collectability/investment or looks good in their collection. _________________ Transporter Restorations

It wasn't that great, lots of details wrong, lots of reproduction parts, definitely a fix and flip.....if that bus would have showed up at an OCTO purists would have had a field day with the inaccuracy. _________________ Transporter Restorations
