U.S. Army RLM green (early cars) and U.S. Army O.D. green and P.X. (Post Exchange) vehicles were medium grey.
German C.C.G. (Control Commission for Germany) and the UNRRA (United Nations Relief and Rehab'n Admin'n), RLM green or British Army green.
Private German doctors, Diplomatic Services/Corps and Christian or Mennonite Relief Services, black or medium grey.
International Red Cross, RLM green and light grey.
This was all done for a quick color ID in postwar West Germany, Vienna and Berlin to help the British red caps, French Gendarmerie and U.S. Army Military Police see who was just driving what...............where.
By 1949/50 German civilians were allowed to drive again and a few more colors got thrown into the mix the Army color codes were over.

Are there pics of the P.X. grey? Is it different from L21? |

This may be even more unusual than a Reichspost vehicle. Note the traffic sign is in English...Certainly a postwar addition. Note that oncoming vehicle appears to be a British lorry as employed by the British Army. The lettering on the side of the VW appears too short to say "Reichspost", but the "BRA" on the back might easily stand for "Britishces Rhein-Armee" or British Army of the Rhine...the British occupation forces in northern Germany. |
