I wonder what the hatch was for? Military van or some sort of camper conversion? It looks like there is a hacked-in side window too.

Hierbij het artikel uit de Autokampioen van 18 September 1954 met schitterende foto’s van een 53’er bestelwagen welke in Nederland voor 800 Gulden is omgebouwd tot 4-persoons camper.
Het geen kostte 700 manuren en na inbouw van de camperkit bleeft het gewicht steken op 1150kg. Hierdoor nog steeds een lage wegenbelasting, een kruissnelheid van 60km/ph en een verbruik van 1 op 10.
Er moest een wereld zijn open gegaan voor deze mensen..
