Hello all
Looking for some info and an approximate value of this license plate frame.
It's been in my memorabilia case for a while.
Thanks

Is it truly old? One idea might be to email or call them and see if they still sell them. Or maybe have access to when they stopped making them as the case may be.
What I really would not do is rely on the age of VW parts manufactured by Speedwell to somehow equate to the age of the frame. The London UK letters just don't look vintage to me- more like an 80s style.
I sure see something like this wowing a buyer at a VW swap- but I have no idea what it may be worth. _________________

It seems odd that a frame ostensibly from London would be sized to fit standard US license plates..... _________________ Gone but not forgotten: 1950 Hoffman split (restored in 1966) - another 1950 Hoffman split (restored in 1996) |

I think Speedwell was absorbed by EMPI years ago.
Here is one that belongs to a friend.

Wow, it wasn't too long ago the name was used with an aftermarket tuner of (mostly) modern Minis IIRC- while still in the U.K.. Now a Google search offers only Speedwellengineering based in California! My apologies if the world passed me by on Speedwell. I recall old literature (VW books) explaining Speedwell marketing with Empi- I didn't know they were absorbed.
I found this- so at least we won't get snookered on expensive valve caps! http://speedwellclassics.co.uk/ _________________

those speedwell frames were made in the mid 90's to feed the market for speedwell and empi stuff. They are not original and not from speedwell. they were £10 new. |

The original Speedwell company was wound up voluntarily in the early 70s. They had a trading arrangement with Empi but were never 'absorbed' into them. False news! |
