Still hoping that some brave pioneer to come up with an awning window solution with integrated blind. |

I saw this awhile back. I didn't think that they were a direct fitment. |

Would be an easy install. Cut a piece of aluminum to the outside size of the stock window and then cut out the hole size to mount the new window in the aluminum.
Aluminum frame is fitted to the van using the stock window seal. |

Seitz windows in the US would more exciting if their reputation was better and they had a model that would just drop in. |

That might be $673CDN - about $50USD!!
I say might because (a) its a Canadian website and (b) the currency tab at the top of the page doesn't do anything... _________________ '84 Vanagon GL 1.9 WBX

I've certainly thought about that but I'm hoping to avoid the multi layered approach. It would be easy but ugly. I may just weld in a panel. I'm due for seam repair and paint anyway. |

No measurements, but I have this “before” pic from a jalousie install I did last fall…maybe it’ll help?

Has anyone seen this one yet?
Being sold for Landrover Defender rear window storage access.
Overall: L 1120mm (44.1") x W 50mm (2") x H 490mm (19.3")
Door Panel: L 1044mm (41.1") x H 414mm (16.3")
Out of stock of course, but at $1027.00 I can't see it flying off the shelf.

I traced the factory window to make a filler panel from prefinished black Dibond composite sign substrate and installed a CR Lawrence AW1033 window (purchased from Van Windows Direct) in a '84 Adventurewagen. While I do wish it was a bit larger and opened further, I'm very happy with what I consider to be a huge improvement over the OE sliding window. I'm actually making another one now for a tintop that incorporates electrical (and another TBD) hookup so that no holes are cut in the side of the body.

Here's my current window insert project in progress, same CRL AW1033 window plus a pair of camper hookups from GW.

SnowDaySyncro- Those windows look great. Will you be offering them for sale
What is the material that goes around window? is it plastic or metal? lots of options for customization. _________________ 86 bostig SYNCRO

The panels are a product called MAXMETAL Lite, which is 3mm thick aluminum composite with a plastic core. Another brand name is DIBOND.
I added a layer of Peel & Seal to the inside so that it matches the 4mm thickness of the factory window for proper sealing. The inset window now has an available match from Van Windows Direct using the same model number AW1033 with VWD branding instead of CR Lawrence. It's a few bucks cheaper and quality reviews are good. My second CRL window wasn't as well-made as the first, so I plan on trying the VWD AW1033 next time around.
I got a 4x8 sheet for under $60 from a sign supply wholesaler through a friend who's in the business (I worked in a sign shop many years ago). Look for a sign supplier or sign shop in your area. It's available in black, white, and probably other colors as well. I have no plans or interest in producing them for sale. That said, I do have other window ideas that might eventually replace one of these, in which case, I'd list the take-out unit in the classifieds here. |
