I was never that good at shooting pool so I came up with a little gauge to help check the rocker geometry. Just a straight edge that lays on top of the retainer and with a line scribed at the distance between the top of the retainer and the top of the Manley lash cap that I'm using. That measurement in this case is .100".

It "looks" ok here:

And this verifies it, maybe it could come up a hair but not bad. I have a little work to do with the push rod yet to get the adjuster parallel to the stem.

Looks good to me. 50% lift, right?

and that means??????you could extend it to see if the carb is also in tune if it's inline with that at half the moons phase.

It means the retainer (and therefore the centerline of the valve stem) is 90 degrees to the rocker shaft center at 1/2 lift.

Yes, at half lift. There are arguments for setting it at 1/3,1/2, 3/4 or full. All someone needs to do is glue a strain gauge to a guide and determine where in the lift the maximum stress occurs...

Or plot the time/distance on a chart and look when accel peaks.

That may or may not tell you when the maximum sideways force occurs on the stem/guide because of the constantly changing angle between the rocker and the stem. It would be an interesting project though.
