I live in central North Carolina and I am new to VWs.
I am trying to put together a "resource list" for my
Bay Window VW Bus needs.
We do have several local shops in the area that will work on VWs
along everything else.
I own a 71 aircooled bus sportsmobile
So, I am asking if anyone has a very good recommendation for a
motor builder in or nearby central North Carolina?
Thank You in Advance

I can but I primarily specialize in waterpumpers, or look up Hick's VW in Durham. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

I had a customer call Jeff last month and talk about an engine build. I don't know how he sells those quality engines for the prices that he does. Good stuff right there.

I would recommend buying an engine from a semi local builder, not someone on the other side of the country. Much easier to deal with that way, if anything was to go awry.
Check out Monkey Nut in Charlotte. www.monkeynutvw.com
What do you mean by Central NC? I’m in Durham, if you need any help, feel free to send me a message. _________________

I would also recommend buying from someone local. Maybe Monkeynut is great. Do some research.
I lived in Greensboro from 1991 - 1998 and at the time could not find a good VW engine builder. That was then, this is now.
Today I live in Southern California and have found a great engine builder. He only works on air cooled Vw engines and does hundreds a year.
Shipping to you might be $300. He test runs them before shipping. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

Ask Hazetguy who to go to. I think he is near Asheville. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

I have used Hicks in Durham for some work - fair prices and nice guys.
I am on here doing research as I am looking at a few local bus options to add to my DD Type 1 1972 Beetle |

Glad to hear you found someone, and I hope they do good work for you. If they do, make sure to come back to thesamba and give them some praise. So the next guy living in your area that needs a rebuild will have some suggestions. =) _________________ Brutis Patches Izabich: 1970 VW Transporter - 1776cc DP
