just wanted to do some documenting on our new rig.
The idea started during our fall break family trip to the Keys! The Vanagon syncro was very packed with 2 babies and a dog. It was constant logistics to move car seats and find a place to lay down. It was awesome trip but still very crowded!
This is where I sketched the rig!
The plan!

Cool!
Even thought it's not quite a Vanagon, you might find more of a following/input in the Vanagon forums. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

I updloaded a few pics for the story starter. But here it is! Just arrived from the Swiss Alps! This vehicle was a ski resort piping repair rig. The super well done box in the back was actually put together by a branch of the Bugatti builders carrosserie GANGLOFF (look it up on Wikipedia). I lucked out and bought this rig for $3500 off the local French craigslist.!! )
The rig is1989 LT45 4x4 DOKA loaded of options such as air ride driver seat, sliding windows, triangle swivel windows.

My Q is the one about the tougher move: is it still sitting in France, or has it been moved to TN?- does "Just arrived from the Swiss Alps" mean it has crossed the ocean already? And what does/did it add to your $3500 to ship? |

I can't believe you found an Airstream pick-up camper, let alone in your own area! And lucky you, you got paid to have a practice run on putting the CR diesel in an LT-ha!
I'd say good, luck-but I think you already have it!
Looking forward to following along.
I'm well ware of the shifting gear when the family is in the rig. When I'm alone, I almost feel silly have the entire Vanagon to myself, although with my Weekender model, I love lounging on the "couch". I'd say for a single person, even a couple, a tin-top would be absolutely fine.

So the rig already came with some good bones and material. I really love the quality of the storage boxes down low and these drop gates in the middle. So I'll keep all these for now it will make for some huge storage on the side of camper.
First step the whole inside of that truck had to be emptied this invovled about 500 rivets to be drilled with my buddy @Greg.mills we had some fun!
Then I put the roof section on the lift and separated the upper section by cutting all the beams.
After being loose I raised the lift to separate and drove out! _________________ conversions: www.boxeer.com Common rail TDI and NOW PDK transmissions!!

This is super sweet! I'm excited to follow this and drool over it! Especially with my van in storage for the season. |
