I do not know - I can only speculate ...
It was a private French website from David alias Entong. Maybe some issues with the European General Data Protection Regulation that was starting this year. He stored a lot of M-Plates at his website to be shared as images... maybe that was why he had to think about it himself.
To sad, hopefully it will be back... _________________ Rolf-Stephan Badura

I tried mailing him a few times as I transposed two numbers in putting my M-code in, but never got a response. if anyone gets contact with him maybe the site can be bought and hosted somewhere where the regulations allow it to get back online?
I might just get a Birth Cert from VW regardless anyhow too. _________________ Few will understand the passion and majesty, among the nuts and grease.

I would be willing to make a iOS/Android decoder app if anyone had good information on how to decode the m-plate.
I would even be willing to build a scanner using the camera and do OCR.
This way it will always be on the App Store / Play store and we wouldn't have to worry about it going down. _________________ 1979 Sage Green California Westy. |

Just a couple of thoughts regarding the recreation of an online 'M' plate decoder.
Firstly I have some reservations about an OCR version to work from photographs as I see many plates that are in very poor condition, heavily painted (they are mostly painted from the factory) or were the version that is located on the curved air duct under the dash and have been photographed badly. My preference would be a manual entry system probably in a similar fashion to the now defunct one.
Secondly to help with the database of 'M' number descriptions I have some factory information if it is of any help to the person setting up the system. In this case if required please PM me. _________________ Rod,

This definitely needs to be brought back, I decoded a buddy's bus manually because the decoder was down and while it was fun to sit there with a piece of paper writing down codes I definitely don't want to do that for every bus in the future. _________________ '67 Beetle L41

Any updates on this? I didn't know it was down and just tried. Hope it comes back someday. It's super cool to get info. _________________ Terry Gaudet

Does anyone have all the data for this to decode manually?
I can build the website for decode but I need to build the database with all the values.
Please let me know. |

I'll happily host this if someone can code it simply. Otherwise, I have a few friends who could write it for not toooo much money if we get a pool of donations together.

its not the code on the page that we need, those are just input forms, we need the database
the code would be handled in something like PHP which you cant view on a "page source code" view |

Could you make the database with the data from here and the type 2 site? _________________ '67 Beetle L41
