I am looking at a '89 Porsche 944 automatic. The guy is selling because the auto trans is not a happy camper. I've heard ( he says) a Vanagon auto trans will fit..is that reliable information?
Thanks. _________________ I succeed because I fail. |

Used 944 complete are a dime a dozen in US. I'd think a Vanogan would be reverse geared? _________________ CMC '57 Porsche Speedster Replica and Dolphin boat tailed full pan VW MOD-T Street Buggy |

I agree, auto transmissions for 944 are a dime a dozen ,we. must have over ten of them here.
However, maybe it is not the transmission but rather the vibration dampener (rubber flywheel) that broke. They are not available used and new ones are 1600 dollars, and labor intensive to replace. We have two 944 automatics on our lot right now that both need them, and the cars are not worth enough to justify the expense, even though they are nice cars!!!

So ditch the auto and convert to manual trans! Here are most of the pieces for $600 required save the MT!

Add another $600 for the MT and you've greatly improved the car. _________________ CMC '57 Porsche Speedster Replica and Dolphin boat tailed full pan VW MOD-T Street Buggy |
