Thanks for the comment. At this time I have no opinion on that generator air cover currently. Just the way it came with the car. _________________ "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

Those plastic generator covers were not added until the bugs went away from rain guards on the vented engine lids. They then added multiple rows of vents in the lids as the 70's wore on. My contention is they were added to keep the rain water out of the generators. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Installed new hinge pins. I did 1st-oversize, but the reamer barely removed any metal, they were so sloppy, so I went 2nd-oversize and they're nice and snug now. You can get the reamers on ebay - I paid $8 each for mine; I don't see how WW gets $45 for theirs.

I had taken off the door panels on my '66 Deluxe to get the locks redone (thanks Gabriel). You can see the rot at the bottom of the driver door panel.
I replaced the mushy part of the panel and covered the inside with polyethylene, as Clara suggests. Construction tape works very well on poly.
I was impressed with the lack of significant rust on the bottom of the doors after my owning it for 14 years. It lives outside, except for the winter. It has been oil-sprayed 2-3 times in its life with me and that might contribute to the metal still being solid.

Finished the logos on the dove grey commercial caps. Got them from The Samba. Vinyl logos fitted very well and am happy with the outcome. Easy to do once you watch the how too video on YouTube.

Getting the cargo doors sorted out on the '57 23-window. It's amazing - and scary - how malleable hinges are when you get them orange-hot. I had to do some outright surgery on one of the hinges to get anything to line up - I removed it and re-positioned it (for the 2nd time). The door bottoms still need some help.

Buy the correct tool for the job. I got my door hinge pin tool on line for $50 or so from an online hot rod shop. |

New tires for the D-Cab. Being my trans died before the new 1641 rebuild hit 500 miles I will have time to get the rims powder coated. Hope to have time this week to pull the engine.

I'm curious if that will help with the door sag? Hinge pins.

I took the headlight switch out & did the Eric&Barb and Matt Roberds Headlight Switch Repair to help my 6v system do the best it can.
Soldered terminals inside & out.
When disassembling... pay attention to where the square inner part is oriented, with respect to the #57 spade (actually, the #57 finger on the inside).
M3x16 screws, slightly countersunk (with a drill bit, by hand).

Thom, do you have a link to the reamers, especialy 1st oversize reamer, you found? I’d like to buy one that someone knows works, of course haha. Thanks. _________________ ,,Wenige Menschen denken, und doch wollen alle entscheiden.'' -der Alte Fritz

Installed a tonneau from NLA Parts.
And finally replaced the driver's door lock mechanism so the door now stays closed. Sometimes it's the little things that matter the most. _________________ Keep it acoustic.
