Guess I should start with the question: when installing a T4 in a full bodied sedan, does the engine get supported via the engine hanger bar? I don’t know.
But to the point, presuming it does, to what do you anchor the engine bar on a Baja bug? _________________ 74 1303 (RevBug): plan for German Look

You don’t need a rear hanger. It is nice to have the option of extra support, but it isn’t needed. The four bolts holding it onto the transmission are good enough, same as a Type 1. If you want to fab a rear hanger, you certainly can. That is the nice part about type 4 and type 3 engines, they have a provision for rear support where the type 1 engines do not. _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295

I don't think it's necessary, 002/type 2/type 4 transmissions didn't mount the same way as type 1, hence the engine hanger. _________________ foam cowboy hats aren't good helmets. |

Exactly. Many applications of the type 4 had no bell housing mounts. The transmission and engine were hung from the rear engine hanger and the front of the transmission only.
Here is a tip, if you have the transmission solid is mounted, use the stock rubber mounts in the back and preload them slightly for support. Don’t over constrain the assembly by solid mounting at three points. Example, solid nose one mount, solid bell housing mount, and solid rear engine mounts.
If the frame horns are braced well we can get away nicely with solid nose one and bell housing mounts, but adding a third into the mix is just asking for trouble. _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295

Check the heads carefully. The 2.0 914 heads may be the most fragile of any T4 heads. I have yet to see one that is not cracked in either (or both) the combustion chamber around the spark plug boss or inside the exhaust ports. _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295

Thanks Van. Will do. My wife has been running this in her 914 and only issue is had was the oil cooler leaking. Compression was good.
She’s got a 2260 now and this one just has to go somewhere. . . . . _________________ 74 1303 (RevBug): plan for German Look
