Anyone know who snagged the Atascadero stash? I had been chasing them for 20+ years. I heard they didn’t go cheap. From what info I was able to get from the sellers Mom there was a DC, ~56/57 SC and an oval bug plus misc. parts. After Mom died I talked to her Brother who said there were “issues”. He asked me what they were worth but wouldn’t left me look at them. The next time I was by they were all moved behind a fence and even harder to see. The last time I was by they were gone. Oh well!

Yes, they ended up all over Central and Northern California.

A friend got the Oval and the Single Cab was for sale here on samba a couple weeks ago. Looks to have sold rather quickly.

I bought the single cab. It is a late March truck. Located in Massachusetts as of yesterday. Will be resurrected as a patina driver for the near term. The double cab went to San Martin and the oval went to Monterey.

I'm not sure what the deal was with that, I forgot to look at it up close from the inside. I know he said it wasn't hooked to anything.

Sheesh, not bad attoll. The passenger seat is icing on the cake. Were bullets what took out the glass? Looks like a bullet hole #1 & #2 behind driver. Had engine?

He thinks some kids knocked all the glass out, it was filled with rocks too. It had a '65 40hp in it with a governor on it. Not a bad bus, I probably would of pulled the trigger if it was a small hatch. I think his son would of ended up with it either way, at least it was saved.

M-plate says it is 1960. But lots of parts don't appear to be matching to that year, as they are later ones. This sincle cab was found recently in Vienna, Austria. Right next to a subway station!
If interested you can read more in my vw blog.

I'm surprised the hoops are still there.

If it was a '60 wouldn't it have semaphores?
No photo of the M-code plate?

Looks like 63 up doglegs and rounded headlight buckets. But I can't see the recess on the icepick doors. Maybe it has had a nose job in the past. Or its a 1963 and the recess on the doors are there and I can't see them.

Please excuse my late answer.. somehow i did not receive any mail notifications on this topic.

I will ask the new owner if he agrees on posting the mplate here.
And thanks for shwoing us this great old photo, Christian! Very Happy

From what I know it was a fire department vehicle.

Now the funny part: The chances are high that this VW single cab once came from the car graveyard of my grandfather.. At least the two locations were just 5 minutes away back in the days.

Here is what the new owner of this sincle cab told me:
The front mask has been changed at some point of time.
It has mounts for the full length seat bench (factory made until 1962)
The side walls of the loading bed raise questions.. on the right side it is the old version (up to '62) and on the left it is a later one (after '63 model)..

But i can't really tell why there are no semaphores.

All in all it seems as back in the 70ies they used two damaged cars to make one again.. And that would also match with the story of my grandfathers wrecking yard.. I'll keep you updated if maybe one day a birth certificated might tell more.

Oooooh, the rear kick and both bumpers are there.
The back bumper was mounted upside down? Weird.

Guess he means the kick panel under the rear seat. Pretty rare part.

Yes, it has the "snowflake" rear kick panel, which was only used through 1958

Hard to find and super expensive if you need one.
