Sorry but I know of too many people that had their domain names taken away and threatened with legal action for using any of a hundred "registered" words.

I remember this Toyota Ad Campaign where you could name your car,
it was a hella cool idea.
The sad fact is that there is likely nobody @ VWOA Marketing that knows how "special" a '67 VW is.
I saw a quick snip of this, and noticed right away a crud load of stuff that was just plain wrong on the car.
If VW restored my 51 year old car, I would be very involved with making sure it was restored correctly.
I did a refresh on my ’78 in the late 90’s, I still have a box or two of cheesy parts that I ordered, and then discovered that they were wrong.
I would have thought a ’67 Beetle from California would be an easy restoration, but it looks like it can be an easy restoration to screw up.
I want to watch the full feature so I can find out what shop did this.

Because VWoA couldn't do it. I doubt the mexican factory initiated this project. It was VWoA and they sent it the Mexico because they didn't have anyone in the USA they even knew the engine was in the back. _________________ Glenn

The engine; although the original engines heater hoses were blocked off, the new engine had no heater. It had no crankcase breather hose to the air cleaner, and the air cleaner was wrong. Wrong distributor and no correct emission control, which is still required in Ca. Why didn't they use the original tin? They looked at that oil bath air cleaner-they had it in their hands exanimating it. Did you notice the + rear camber when the car was being driven? The front fenders and headlamps are incorrect, and the " aerodynamic " yea sure headlamp eyebrows. I'm sure she likes the wide white wall tires-real correct for 57, but not for 67 if you can stand white walls at all. The car came with Lotus white leatherette upholstery and door panels, now the door panels are two tone and the seats are incorrect, carpet is tan instead of charcoal. Some restoration.
A special thanks to the Samba. Where else can you find all this correct information that's in the Technical or Archives sections! |

1975 and older do not need smog testing in CA. |
California smog law requires all vehicles with exhaust controls ( exhaust controls start with 1966 vehicles in California and 1967 on Federal or 49 state vehicles) must maintain their emission equipment. 1966-1975 are not currently tested, however those cars must maintain their system because California Air Resources Board ( CARB ), or the Air Quality Control District (AQMD) if they find air quality is getting worse, or California needs to further control it's carbon offset can bring the 1966-1975 cars back into Smog Check. The way the law is written California does NOT need a referendum ( VOTE ) to do so. They can implement the law anytime they want, therefore all cars from 1966-1975 must retain their original emission equipment according to Ca. law. |

Well, she'll be in big trouble if they do that, and she has to spend big bucks on a rubber hose that connects the air cleaner to the oil filler to correct the issue. |

Really cool of a company lending a hand. If that could happen more often, think of how much nicer and less judgmental more people would be. _________________ Jimbo

EXACTLY!
Where’s the emoticon of the little guy walking across the screen, dropping his shorts, and peeing on something? VW has long since forgotten the Aircooled generation that built the brand, and has burnt all bridges with their lawsuits with any independent shop using the word Aircooled, or the letters V, and W in any way associated with their business.
It’s great they did this deed for the owner, and it’s great they are happy with it, but I wouldn’t let someone from VWoA put air in my tires. At least they could have sent the car to an AMERICAN Aircooled specialist like Bob Cook. That way, any mods for reliability/modernization/performance would have been done tastefully. |

Damn right! Lol.
I can only guess that VW is trying desperately to reconnect with the world in a way that reminds us of the humble bug and VWs more trustworthy and likeable days before they were publicly humiliated as fraudsters who produce pathetically unreliable cars.
What they did for this one lady is a nice gesture, but the motivation is at the root of what I think many are being critical of, and rightly so.
For the record, I think the car looks ok, just not how I would have done it. _________________ Plate of shrimp |

A nice gesture from VW for sure. But why put it back together without heater boxes and Sound deadining and proper wire grommets for wires through the panels. I gues from there it will go back to her mechanic that will replace the missing engine sheet metal and get her some heat.
Why is the steering column black?. The Foot stop over the carpet is amatuerish at best.
The lady is thrilled I am sure, she'll soon realize that Anne has been violated of her birth rite. They got rid of the 67 Only front fenders and then put cheap rust O matic visors on the headlights?
My dad worked for VOA for 15 years in the late 60's, we had a new VW every year for most of that time. I walked the ship yards of new VW's and none of them had Roof racks on them. You wouldn't know that today, you'd think they were standard equpment.
I do remember driving from the port to VW HQ in our white 67 which was covered in cosmoline and the Hub caps were wrapped under the hood in paper as well as the back up lights were dealer installed as well. Once at VW they steam cleaned all of the cosmoline off and installe dthe caps and back up lights and off we drove. My guess would be that car had 3 miles on it or less.
Parked on the street because my parents were having thanksgiving and needed the garage, someome dropped a cigarette in the car and burned the interior. It was fixed and we continued to drive it with the burnt smell until they sold it a year later.
