I’ll get a picture tomorrow. The Bug has been in California
Until last December, when we moved to Virginia & shipped the Bug.
It’ a daily driver now, it was a weekend driver before.
It’s amazing how many thumbs up I get when driving the car. Most people have a story about a Bug.

Nice interior like the idea you have the speed on the dash grille. Love the snow photo and sorry you are in Va(where roughly as I used to live in Hampton Roads and Newport News) property tax on even cars.... _________________ 2001 Ultima Clasico Edicion Mexibeetle

Yes property tax on the cars, + registration. But it's still less than registration in California alone, by $80.00. |

I have installed LED, taillight/brake light bulbs. Backup LED bulbs, I need to replace the flasher relay to a solid state relay. Has anyone done this before, so I can change the turn signal bulbs? They are so much brighter, which is better! |

My bug has LED's replacing everything but the licence plate light. They're great.
The flasher relay (original) won't work. The one I use was purchased from ebay (about 4 usd), and it has worked fine for at least 3 years.
However, due to the way the original circuit works, the turn signal light in the dash will not work properly. I did a couple of mods to get it working again, though.
Others suggest to add a load resistor to the lights. _________________ 1998 Volkswagen Sedan (MexiBeetle, daily drive)

I'm in Lynchburg, Va.
The note on the dash, it's handy. It keep me in speed check mode, I don't want a ticket in this fast machine! |

First, the flasher unit is located behind the dash, you can access it from the front of the car.
In the picture, the flasher is on the far right.
This is the cheap flasher:
The two white wires here are hooked to the hazard switch outputs (Left / Right)...
...And connected with diodes (and one resistor, I don't remember its value)
Which in turn power this LED
Finally, here the lights are operating.

I think I need serious help.
I replaced the oxigen sensor (the old one was faulty), and re-timed the engine (following instructions from 1600i.de)
Now, engine operating temperature went through the roof!
Sorry for low quality, but this is what the scan tool says (124ºC):
And, I can't touch the dipstick for more than a couple of seconds.
If the timing is correct (that's a big IF), what can cause such hot temperatures?
This behavior was spotted a few days ago, but I cannot tell when it begun.
Also, despite everything I try, the exhaust smells like gasoline all the time. _________________ 1998 Volkswagen Sedan (MexiBeetle, daily drive)

So I Let my 96 Mexican sit too long. And now the fuel pump will not turn on.
Typically when the ignition key is turned on you can hear it spin up for a couple of seconds. Now I hear nothing. I pulled the tank so I can get to the pump and checked that it gets voltage when the key is turned on ( for a couple of seconds).
Is it possible that the pump is just froze up inside?
Can it be taken apart, cleaned and possible function again? _________________ Where's Garry |

I have a 2000 Mexican Beetle with 33,000 KM and notice a small issue. When I drive I notice at times a hesitation or slight sputter. It comes and goes. What could cause this? The car is in like new condition and I am not a mechanic. |

They do gum up inside, if they are sitting, here's a look back on this thread with some photos of a gummed up fuel pump.
As you can see from the photos, they do come apart:

Thanks, FYI it was cooler today around 55 F this morning and it ran great. I was guessing that is could be the oxygen sensor being effected by warmer temps? The problem never appears until the motor is warmed up. |

Could be, or maybe a vapor lock, [just guessing here... ] _________________ 1971 Super Beetle (past)

Thanks for the info.
I pulled the pump out and opened it up. There was a small amount of rust like crud in the bottom of the housing. But not a lot.
I connected it to 12v and watched the gear looking part on the bottom try to move and could feel it vibrate. It seems to be locked up. So I inverted the put part and soaked it down with penetrating fluid. I will let it set for a day or two and try to get it moving.
