Is it safe to say this is top dead center and the notch is 7.5 before?
Valves tell me #1 is at TDC.
Car runs close to correctly at what seems to be 10-12 before TDC but the SVDA should be 7.5 before. Not sure but it seems this may have caused me all kinds of running issues. |

Here's a good thread on the pulley's. I like to do what you did. Get a long, plastic straw and shove it in the hole to find when the piston is at TDC. Rock it back and forth to insure TDC. Then, mark the pulley with a file or paint marker.
On your timing question, post a picture of which distributor you're using. Is this a German Bosch or an aftermarket copy?
It's preferred to set the timing this way. Put it at 7.5 BTDC at idle and then remove and plug the vacuum line to the advance canister. Rev the engine to 3800 RPM and set the max mechanical advance to 28°-30° BTDC. Then let the idle fall where it may. It should be close to the 7.5BTDC _________________ Contact me at [email protected]
