You and your mates are going to get killed or gang raped. Maybe they値l leave you with enough gear so you can make it to the next round of BS you値l encounter. Central and South America are rather tame compared to some of the places you値l end up in. Not trying to dissuade you as the drama of your possible beheading will surely bring views. Good luck and safe travels.

There really is an odd community of detractors here on The Samba.

I'm speaking from first hand accounts of seasoned travelers I personally know and have interviewed. I'm including a couple that traveled through the middle east in a VW Bus ( and broke down ). They left with their passports and got home thanks to the gold they had melted and hidden in the mans canes ( he was disabled ). Other friends stuck in Pakistan for 2 years after being robbed of everything and without ID. Again these decisions come down to rule of law not hopeful delusions about how "good people are". That is not a universal trait, it varies from culture to culture

Ok. I voted you will make it. You did the hell route once and made it. This time you seem to have a seemingly basic idea of the VW Wink Laughing

Didn't realize you guys were so close. May need to bring by some Christmas cheer.

Just to go on the record with my vote, I also voted that you will make it. The obstacles you overcame in Hasta Alaska were pretty major. Who knows what the future holds but I知 wagering you will pull it off. Good luck to you, Leah and Alaska.

Thanks for your vote of confidence. It is taking way longer than I hoped to get this Kombi road ready, but I really want to overhaul as much of the Bus as possible at least before we head of of Europe.

The good part of taking so long and fixing things, is when something does go wrong or you hear a funny noise, you will exactly what it is because you will know every part of that bus intimately.

As a member of the "OFS" community here- I was really impressed with your editing ability- ya you actually made me seem to have (as Bill sr would have said) almost human intelligence. Shocked Your viewers will never see haw many times the Quartzsite gremlins came in the night and screwed up all our work.

Honestly- from electrical to water leaks. The wipers were an example- literally here today and gone tomorrow. Fate put Ben n Leah in an oven pressure cooker- and they came out dumplings.

It was a pleasure having you guys here and hope you can get across the planet before th SHTF. Call if you need any thing. Popcorn

Don't forget that in MANY countries of the World, including Australia, we drive on the LEFT hand side of the road and have our steering-wheel on the RIGHT hand side of the vehicle.

This includes Great Britain, Ireland, all of the British Overseas Territories, British Commonwealth countries (apart from Canada, who bucked the trend for some inexplicable reason!?!), Japan and Thailand, plus possibly some other who couldn't see the purpose in driving on the wrong side of the road. Very Happy

If you travel down through Africa on the Eastern side (the only practical route, unless you plan to brave the tropical rain forests and deserts), you will discover that from Egypt (League of Nations, British Mandate from 1917~22) to South Africa, you will be travelling through mostly former British colonies where they still drive on the left.

TWELVE engine rebuilds in 50,000 miles, seems like a lot; even considering the type of terrain one would encounter between Chile and Alaska.

Keep in mind that historically the VW Beetle Type 1 style engine was the most common and best known variant around the World. Although the VW Type 4 style engine was well known in North America, Australia and South Africa, it was relatively rare or completely unknown in other countries.
