|
|
Hello, I am in the midst of wiring up some Fog Lights on my Super with a Relay that is planned to be wired into the Rear Window Defrost Switch in the Dash.
This way the Rear Window Switch will looks stock, plus just be used to switch the Fog Light Relay into operation and not be wired directly to a switch like a modern car.
So, now is this possible, or has anyone done it and seen it work? By the way, my Rear Window Defrost is wasted, has not worked in a few decades I bet, lol.. RB _________________
"HELP, I ported my own heads and now have fire coming out my ass" .
should be fine....thats the purpose of using a relay...all the heavy current to light the fog lights runs through the relay (wire the fogs with adequate size wire)...the only current running through the switch is the small amount needed to close the relay, which would be the same as closing a rear defog relay....just make sure the relay you use for the fog lights can handle the load |

Agreed.
What you really need to know is what the draw current is needed to activate the relay. For most Bosch-style SPDT / SPST relays this value is very low... around 0.050A to 0.150A (much less than 1A). Identify the make/model of your fog light relay and find a spec sheet. Look up the operating current needed for the coil of the relay. _________________ AshMan40

Thanks guys for the reply.. I am did find a nice 20/30 Amp Relay at CB and it is priced at $4.95. So, had some questions for CB on some other parts and doubled checked that the Amps was topped out at 30 Amps and they said correct. So, for $4.95 I am just going to take a chance with it and see what happens.. Have the Fog Lights already, wiring is played in under the carpet from the rear of the car to under the front hood, so now, just have to run a power wire from the Defrost Switch up Front and lay in all the wiring once I mount the Fog Lights... Sure beats a $39.95 Relay kit, lol..
Thanks for the help, this is a work in progress so may be a while until the lights are in and wired and tested, but taking baby steps and messing with this phase around others regarding the car..
