The jack works perfectly after the time spent on it I'm pretty stoked.

For those who read the original post, turns out I needed to be a little more forceful as the clamp was a little out of shape. The jack slipped right in nice and snug.

Sweet!

Looks great!

I am thinking of picking this one up for my 72 super I am working on. $15 off craigslist:

BTW there is another thread on here concerning using the stock VW jack mount to jack up your car, and how some people have bent their frame using it. All I can say is I have been using my stock jack mount for decades on my 69 and have yet to bend the frame. I even use it with my scissors jack sometimes, that bottom seam on the jack mount bar fits perfectly into the notch on my scissors jack. Makes me wonder what I am doing wrong...

Bend? Crazy! I plan on never using it actually unless I'm in the middle of nowhere and 100% stuck.

Another update to some work done on the car and some more glamour shots after completion.

Fixed the back seat finally. It was my first upholstery job ever. Got my lines straight!!

I finally did the motor work I was dying to get done. Runs great and the new manifold with risers still intact (not hacksawed off) make a world of difference.

I changed the stance a little by adjusting the beam slightly and putting smaller tires up front as well. I'm digging it right now. Still more work to be done though. Here are a few glamour shots of my car just before a storm rolled in.

Those with a sharp eye will already have noticed I did get my original decklid back on (as mentioned in previous post). It's the only thing I didn't do myself (paint) as I wanted it to be really nice. I paid dearly for the best shop in town to do it. They scanned the car and matched it 100%. freaking perfect. Pretty happy about it.

My plan to redo my grandfather's old Coleman cooler in a Frostie Root beer theme is pretty well done as well. I just need to clean some of the plastic, wet sand and polish it. I'll be USING this cooler so I didn't spend a heap of time on it but it's far more presentable than it was. Found a period correct Frostie root beer can (1969) to use as a coil cover and match the theme as well. Just a little personal touch.

All I want to do now is drive it (which I have been daily) but there is more to do. The new dash pad is quite high on the list but I doubt I'll tackle that until winter. Despite engine work, I'll be pulling it out over the winter to have the bottom end redone professionally........it could use it. For now, I'm driving.

Thanks for reading!

Might as well add the shepherds hook video I did here as well.

Why not...I'm not good at this video stuff though.

Thanks! Did a few more things in the interior but I’ll update at some other time. Honestly though I’ve just been driving and enjoying it for the last while. In the planning and prep stages now for replacing the dash pad. I think that’ll be the next job I tackle. I can’t stand how cracked up it is. Just trying to find the best one to buy.

Cheers!

Haven't done much to the car really but figured I'd update a couple of things I've done anyway here on my work thread.

Speaker shelf.

Had a VW emblem in my basement FOREVER and started repairing it for this job. Forgot to take a before pic but here it is after filling, straightening, sanding and primer applied.

Shelf in place. It doesn't look like it in the picture but all the lines line up perfectly to the ones in the seat. My OCD was in full swing.

Run the auxiliary cables through the ash tray.

Stereo now sounds AWESOME. Really digging it.

Also spent some time making my own custom shifter knob. Placed a Frostie Root beer cap from '69 (in keeping with the theme) into some resin. It took several attempts and it still isn't "perfect" but I'll tackle it again when I get time. Once I perfect the technique I'll post about my learnings.

Anyway, Here's the current shifter.

I can’t believe that you never added one of my all time pics to your own thread.

Dude. That's super flattering. I do dig that pic as well. I have so many pics of this car it's embarrassing. LOL Doesn't help that I take photos as a hobby. I have pics of everything.

Couple more. Maybe not as cool with the ship loading in the background.

Finally completed the dash replacement. It was a big one on the to-do list.

Despite a flaw in this pad causing some grief at one point during the install, I pushed through and LOVE how it turned out. Pretty happy.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I did do a video series of the install (you may have seen that thread) so it can possibly help others in the future.

Also I can add armrest replacement to the job list. The originals were still in place but were dry rotted pretty bad in places. Unfortunately, while doing those, the clips for the door panels tore out (there was no plastic sealing water from the cards) so now I've got new door panels to put in.

Plastic is all in place, I just have to find time to finish up. Literally working 60 to 90 hours / week right now. I'm burning out.

Still so much to do but I'm getting to the point of just wanting to drive.

FINALLY got around to putting a quick airride system in. Nothing nuts just got tired of hitting the road. Just wanted something simple to get me up in the front so I can preserve the car/beam.

MA-756's and Air Lift 25804. Super simple but works super well. Eventually I'd like to bag the rear and do something more "official" but this has been working GREAT so far.

Aired out
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Aired up to 100PSI (can go higher but no need)
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Switch and gauge hidden in glove box so I didn't take away from the stock look inside and didn't drill any holes in the metalwork (I try to avoid that as much as possible)
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Compressor is securely mounted to the cover inside the trunk (again no holes in metal). Works great!
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Post work test drive. Nice little tucked away tree lined road I often run. Good times.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Not sure what's next. Still really want bumpers and steel wheels. We'll see. I may even tackle painting black (two tone the car) from the trim down. I still think that would look sharp.

Cheers!

I totally agree. Love the stance of this bug even without the air ride, the paint job, and the meticulous attention to detail on everything esp. the upholstery job. I redid my seats not too long ago and they look OK but nothing as good as that, plus I screwed up the slit in the rear backrest where the pull handle pops through. Rolling Eyes

Wow sb001 those are some seriously kind words. I’m blushing. Hahaha

Honestly though, aside from the decklid that I paid the best shop in town to repair and paint, the rest of the car has a 10ft paintjob. Smile

Good enough for me though.

Lots more changes coming.

Cheers!
