while this might not be a direct answer to the question, still interesting to see a split era (convertable of any kind) bug body having a similar spreader bar.
note, body is not lifted on bar but hooked in the rear shelf and dash.

I wonder what this was for? Lifting? Rigidity?

I checked my deluxe. It has a corresponding paint pattern covering 3 sunroof rail screw holes at this point. Actually its a lack of paint. Looking again at the pictures, each end of the tie spreads out in a triangular shape. Corresponds to the 3 screwhole width on my roof. Guess it must have been for rigidity if they only used the small rail screws.

The paint is thin on my bus in this area. Im thinking the tie was installed throughout the paint process, so only got hit with primer/protective coat? No top coat? Or nothing at all?

Anyone with an original paint sunroof bus who can remove the sunroof rail, take a pic?

I wonder if that spot is the exact middle point for the weight of a bare deluxe shell?
It doesn't seem like the best lifting point, and I can't think of how a sunroof bus would need lifted in a different way than a non-sunroof bus.

Ace recently surfaced picture of the 1000th Bus off the Assembly Line.
I don't think I've seen a picture of the 1000th Bus (with garland) before.
Early 'no screen' gutter.

The one to the right is 1001, so we're not interested in that Smile

That's amazing. How many months into production was that?

Production started March 1950.
8059 units built in 1950.

Looks like mid-June 1950, 3.5 months into production.

was meant to say it has to be after Oct 1952, when I thought initial truck production started, but I was wrong. SC production started on August 25th of 1952 according to Eccles. my bad.

And that's a badass sunroof standard or Kombi right up front there!
Anyone know the earliest one of those?
The earliest I see on the registry is mid 1952.

also loving the DLX roof in the background.

Judging by the workers I would have to say this is in the colder season ( fall, winter, spring). they all wear longsleeve jackets and hats. there are many factory pics where you can see the workers just in shirts during summer.

Also very interesting are the wooden pedestals alongside the actual production line. they seem to be lined with some kind of carpet? again it looks very makeshift fabrication, as we would expect of early WB bus production. it's a pity we have no higher resolution quality of this particular pic! It's awesome.
Also the concrete pillars with their crane pedestals and the light coming in from the tall glass windows. It must have been a sensational modern factory building, even by 1955 standard.

Thanks. This standard was produced on June 29,1951. It has a 24 model number like a deluxe. I think sunroof standards were that way through all of '51 so could be hard to tell looking through the registry.
