I am rebuilding my 73 super beetle from the ground up. I am about to install the control arms and, of course, the camber adjustment bolt. My question is there an initial setting that is recommended as a starting point as to position of this bolt?

If you're taking it in for an alignment try to adjust the bolts so the wheels look straight up and down .

No where near that. It is a bare chassis with no body on it. Jist doig preliminary reassembly of the front and and looking for a starting point on those bolts as I didnt record that when I disassembled.

like he said. get the wheels straight Up&down so it dont look all wonkey when you look at it....but....dont the struts mount to the body? so...then dont wory just do it when the body is back on.

The camber setting when you first assemble the front end is unimportant, because you’re not going to drive it much farther than the alignment shop initially, and those eccentric washers don’t give you enough range to throw off the camber by enough to notice it between home and there.

Cart is before the horse.
The initial setting will be rough/crude, so don't sweat trying to repeat any of the factory components setting/install points & here's why: you're now starting from scratch. The OEM body-to-pan relationship is gone, & so are all the reference points.
Bolt-on the body & suspension components, eyeball the geometry, then limp over to the shop for a real FE alignment.

I'm not sure how compression works.
Turbos don't produce torque, they produce HP. Instead of torque.
The real problem with NA engines is you don't hear the nice whine of the turbo as it spools up.
Before I commit, I'm going to do more research because I don't really know what piston rings are.

This is a photo of how I removed the arm before the camber was changed. Hopefully this might help you with your setting.
