Everything I have been reading about cutting my chassis has referred to removing 14 1/4" out of the pan. Today, I set my body where it goes at the front, marked a spot on the pan at both sides, then moved the body to the rear, and marked a spot both sides. When measuring mark to mark, I am getting 15 1/4". Does anyone know what is recommended for a California Clipper?? Also I am searching for any paperwork that would have come with these bodies originally. I am building one with my son that has been in my family for about 40 years. Thanks.

Glad to see you and your son working together on your buggy!
You're doing it correctly. Mark and cut the chassis so the body fits, not to a random number. Don't forget the rear bulkhead rail of the floorpan which runs laterally, will also fit under the rear edge of the body tub.
Please make your son wear eye protection when he's cutting steel with a hammer and (wood) chisel.
I believe the California Clipper was one of the Sandwinder family. I believe the maker of the Sandwinder was Don Rountree. His son is still involved with them
