Looks like a homemade roll bar to me. The TTS and the VWoA 5-point versions are/were bolt together designs. If you search the technical documentation section of the site you'll find the assembly and installation instructions for the VWoA bolt together version. _________________ '74 Thing

No, it looks like the factory bar or dealer-installed, I have heard it called the "west coast" bar, there were at least two styles. I have the same as the one obus posted, and have seen others. Just fits under the soft top.

It is a nice looking roll bar, but I think you will find that it's not factory. The so called west coast bar was four point not six. The 4 point roll bar was wielded and the 5 point was bolted and they are the only factory roll bars from the dealer. There were aftermarket companies that also made roll bars for the Thing. You can also search and find a lot of good information on the roll bars here on this forum. |

Hi all
Any idea about this other roll bar?
It came to south west of France bolt on a american vw thing.
It seems to be aftermarket not home made:
I have found pictures from the same in the brooklands books vw kubelwagen and on a tshirt

Roll bars themselves are dangerous things. Whack your head against one and you may never be right again. Padding certainly helps as does a roll bar that is as far from your noggin is reasonably possible. |

Hi EDraghDean
Thank you for your answer.
I welded on the belt mount points and also a braquet screwed in the hole for hard top support.
I have seen the last picture in your post, have you other pictures from the roll bar?
