First I searched type 4 and got over 2000 matches so I'm sorry if this has been discussed.

Looking at a type 4 motor there seems to be advantages to it. Like bigger heads, an actual oil filter and the case seems beefier.

To me this appears to be a better candidate to "build" 2 liter or bigger than a type 3 case.

I do realize parts are more expensive.

I'm sure some of you are more familiar with type 4 motors than I am. I'm considering swapping one into a 73 FB.

I also get that some fab work will need to happen to get it mounted.

Thanks!

Type the following into google:
thesamba.com "Type 4 engine" "type 3"

There are a few build threads and I expect all you seek is there.

Thanks Phil. That worked better.

I knew it had been discussed, just couldn't narrow it down with the sites search function.

I often use google instead, and also have some luck selecting "images" after the search, which takes me to a page with that photo, which is often what I was searching for.

Other than cost and a couple extra mounts, I don't think there is much downside if you are building a custom anyway

Check out my conversion link in my signature section. I'm not saying that mine is the best way, but it can give you some ideas. You can also search my other threads and you will find that I have done a lot of mods since that original post. Would I do it again? that's a big yes. It is by far the pleasurable VW of my lot to drive.
