Heads arrived, Yee haw. It’s about to get real.
Though am having sec d thoughts about uso g the 163/86b with the 44/38 heads. Wondering if the SLR XR 284 would be better. Save the webcam to use with the 42/36 heads.
78 x 96
44hpmx.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance. _________________ 74 1303 (RevBug): plan for German Look

It’s starting to come together.
Little por-15 in, around, under the hell hole. And in the engine hanger.
Motor done assembled by strictly foreign in Murphy, Or. 2260 did go with the SLR and 44/38 heads.
Rebuilt transmission
Redoing shift rod bushes
New braided brake hoses
little more prep. Darned little more prep and she rolling under own power

We’ve got the firewall insulation set up there.
What’s your preferred method for attaching it so it doesn’t co e loose and fall into the fan?
Also not the new RIX shift bushing. Slick thing.
Thanks in advance

I am sure that you will make sure that the transmission ground strap is cleanly and firmly connected. I made the mistake of forgetting it one time and the engine used the accelerator cable as the ground and melted it in the tube

Ray,
you mention the CHT plugs in near the #3 intake - - could you be a bit more specific in location? does it connect under the tin? or beside the intake port?
I've got a wire plugged into the harness that routes under the intake and beneath the engine tin. is that the wire for the CHT? (connects into harness beneath the MPS)
is it possible to get at the CHT without dropping the motor?
wondering before I go all crazy on it.

I’m working on a ‘74 2.0 and it won’t stay running after a warm up. I see the the wire next to cylinder #3 is disconnected. Where should it be connected to?

It sure will not with that disconnected! That is the cylinder head temp sensor wire which goes through a hole in the sheetmetal right in front of the right rear pass spark plug hole and connects to the control unit harness

looks like I can see it in the picture, but the broken end you are showing is where it attaches to the control unit harness, look at the harness you should find the other side of the broken wire

Aha! Ok thanks. I’ll check it out. It fired up quickly yesterday and started to idle, then shut itself down after a minute or so. |

****UPDATE****
Found the cut wire from the harness peeking out of the sheath!!
Reconnected and fired right up. Still a rough idle and need to dial it in. Bigger problem now is that gas/oil dripping on to headers around #3 or #4 cylinders. I’ll have to jack back up to get a better look tomorrow. Gotta let the heavy smoke clear for now!! Progress I suppose |

in other news -
2260 is all she ever thought it'd be and more.
been to Seattle. been down to the The Bay.
still having issues with blowing oil by the rings. , though it's gotten better.
had I to do over, I'd not have used the Keith Black rings, but would have substituted. some say they will eventually break in - - we'll see. _________________ 74 1303 (RevBug): plan for German Look

Those rings are Hastings rings, couple of questions , what oil did you use for break in , what are your ring gaps , what method did you use for break in, did the second compression ring have a chamfer on the inside and how did you place them as well as your top ring. Personally I see a lot of engines build by folks for daily driving that never get driven hard enough to seat the rings. just curious. _________________ Schnell, SCHNELL!
