Is there an adjustment to help with steering performance for 74' 181? Seems to lose (bounces around on road groves or slight bumps), also seems really tight or heavy to turn. Any suggestion would be much appreciated.

Go through all the step in your manual (late Beetle Haynes or Bentley) including having your alignment checked.

The correct tire pressure is important.

Check for slop in all the steering components, wiggle your wheels in and out, and put your fingers across the tie rod ends while someone else rocks the steering wheel back and forth through the play.

If your steering gear isn't centered properly and someone tried to adjust out the play it may be very tight in spots.

Thank you for pointing out what to check. It's been a nagging issue that needed to be checked out. This was really helpful. -Mark
