I say this is just one car.
Left hand drive.
Just some negatives where accidently turned over. _________________ Master of my domain! |

The is a 1943 KdF-Wagen Type 60L delivered to the Gauleiter of Vienna, hence W-1 plates, NOT a police car.

Here's a really unique one........1941/42 type 60L Polizei prepared.
Notek Black-Out lamp on front fender, wartime headlight covers and the blue colored Polizei spotlight.
Note: Cogwheel VW emblem on windshield cowl and cogged "nipple" hubcaps.
That square plate shaped object on the left is like an emergency broadcast plate, where special pass plates were mounted to be see by roadside guards,
The WW2 era license plate W = Wien or Vienna which was then part of the German Reich.
May have very well been the FIRST KDF/VW sedan registered as a Police car in that city?
(Sure the Russian troops got this one, if the SS didn't set fire to it in 1945.)

This car is a genuine 1942 KdF type 60, not a police car, and in fact it survived and is now under restoration. The owner is in France and I know him.
It will be soon a very beautiful original 1942 type 60, one a handful survivors of that year!

Fritz Todt (in uniform), Nazi Inspector General for German Roadways who directed the construction of the Autobahn, oversees
the fueling of a KdF-Wagen in February, 1939. Todt would rise to the position of Reich Minister of Armaments before he was
killed in a plane crash in 1942.

W30 prototype in traffic.
If you don't think these cars appeared radical in 1937, compare it to the car in the background. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

This Vienna Gauleiter Dr. Jury KdF was black but looking at the picture is must have been flat black. The car is in front the the Vienna Parliament building in direct sun light so it appears lighter almost grey but was definitely black. |

Great photo of prototype car V3/2 parked in front of the Porsche offices at Kronenstrasse 24 in Stuttgart.
The second view appears on page 73 of Chris Barber's book.
