I get a real charge out of local dialects and expressions. The Newfoundlanders at the extreme east end of our country are prime examples, us Westerners can barely believe it's the same language and most of the time cannot pick up what they are laying down.

It's the butchery of the language that gets under my skin.

The two largest cities in Alberta are Edmonton and Calgary. Most locals pronounce them as Emintin and Cal'gry.

Just be glad that you don’t have to experience Ebonics.

Love that question. Any ESL folks on here that can shed some light?

You could ask a native of Puerto Rico to discuss Spanish with one from Mexico.

Throw in a Brazilian and a Columbian and things might get crazy.

I love dialects and accents. Even if I cannot understand a word. HAHA

Call any one of them a Mexican & you’ll have a fight on your hands.

It truly would as I believe the official language in Brazil is Portuguese and in Columbia it's Spanish.

When we were in Argentina there were several Mexicans in our company and they seemed to have no issue communicating. There were comments afterward by the locals about some small differences though.

Following these with a similar theme.

I have mentioned this before, but it's worth mentioning again. If you are selling a car it is "for sale". NOT "for sell".

Also, it's "would have (would've) not "would of".

Drives me f@#$%ing crazy.

Jeeze how did i forget those?? Especially the "would of"

Here is one from the redundant school of redundancy.

Front windshield.

As opposed to the back windshield? Confused

As someone who works in an auto glass shop, this one really gets to me. We have ridicuous amounts of people who call and ask for a quote on a windshield for their car but after talking to them it turns out that they need a door glass. Or a back glass. Or a quarter window. Or a vent window... Those aren't windshields. Rolling Eyes

Some other equally stupid things are phrases such as “ doesn’t play well together” which is most used to describe certain combinations or mismatches in stock carbs and distributors.

These hipsters could use a single word to describe the above conditions as “incompatible “ but that would require at least a 7th grade vocabulary.

I'll admit to using the "doesn't play well...." reply sometimes, but it's usually to one of those 7th grade sounding hipsters who if you don't will reply "why not?, won't it fit?", it avoids going down a rabbit hole of explaining the simple stuff to someone simple.

How about the phrase “ all things being equal” because they’re not ever equal
Along the lines that because the law recognizes everyone as equal under the law. Doesn’t make them equal under all circumstances

Not racism, just the brutal truth. Calling a Columbian, Brazilian, Puerto Rican, or any other South American a Mexican will piss them off quick. Try it some time. It’s better than talkin shit about an Italian’s momma.

Everyone is now a minority of some sort or another.

Confusing "oversize' and "undersize"
Overzise parts fit bigger holes
undersize parts fit smaller shafts.

because, holes only get bigger
and shafts only get smaller

I had to attend diversity training at work a decade or so ago. Basically ALL classes are protected in USA EXCEPT white males under age 40. When I asked the instructor if that was truly the case, the instructor said "all I can do is re-read the list of protected classes".

Go see "Green Book" at the theater, you'll see how much improvement has happened since 1962. If one expects things to be perfect overnight, than he's a *$#$^&*(%#%&*%$ F*cktard !!!
