Yeah. For sure. Is it a grey-market build..or titled incorrectly? There's not much about that Van that puts in rolling off the assembly line in 90'. Definitely going to need to see the VIN# on that one.. _________________

montana plates with pictures from CA, an L.A. phone number in the for sale window sign, and posted to a new york craigslist. and 36k cash or cashier's check only. seems legit. _________________ 1991 Vanagon GL Camper

there are lot of details that say it is a late model base syncro, the black bumpers with rubber pads, rubber floor, gray tweed seats with a jump seat, clock in the cluster, and stationary quarter windows to name a few. _________________ 1985 2wd Westy with 2000 Subaru 2.2 current driver

So it finally hit CL. I've posted photos (complete with teensy For Sale sign in the window) in the "Have you seen one..." thread a couple of times, once when my wife took a couple of photos at HoDepot and again when I saw it one evening. _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic |

A little seam rust and some dents. I saw it once in the rain at night so did not even bother looking too closely. _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic |

That money is not much to loose if it goes sour. I'd offer a little less and see. _________________ '87 Westy 'Flossie','86 Westy 'R1','86 tintop GL - Subi2.2 'J2','83.5 stock tintop L 'ZoomBus','74 Karmann Ghia, '63 Notch |

Just to clarify my comment. $1500 is not the issue. A bus with that many miles is going to need work. They could give it to you and you'd still have to pay too much if you need a mechanic. If you can do the work then it is a good deal at that price more or less in my opinion. |
Too true! If your intention is to teach your kid how to do their own work, this would be okay money... I started mine off with a similar Vanagon (asking was $800, I said "offer $600" and we dragged it home on a dolly, backwards), and they do kind of get-it how much work it takes to keep a car going when there's no option to taking it to any garage since all the old-timers have retired that actually know how to fix cars. These days, its all in a book, number of hours to do a job, parts to stick in, and pray it is working when they close the hood and you pay... These rigs are what YOU make them. _________________ '87 Westy 'Flossie','86 Westy 'R1','86 tintop GL - Subi2.2 'J2','83.5 stock tintop L 'ZoomBus','74 Karmann Ghia, '63 Notch |

Welcome to the samba!
Sounds like a great project if you can work on it with her. If you have to pay a mechanic then it is not worth anything. YMMV. |
Thanks!, ive been lurking around for quite awhile (years lol) Finally decide on making an account.

I plan on doing all the mechanical work with the kid minus any machining. I grew up that way and appreciate cars more because of it. Plus when it breaks there is a pretty good chance you know what it is and how to fix it.
I'm just new to the Vanagon, had my share of aircooled cars throughout the years plus a couple MK1's and MK2's. She really wants a bus and I could be wrong but I figured a Vanagon would be a little more practical, mainly heat and A/C.
Thanks for the info, just really started looking so I will probably look around some more and compare
I'm on the lookout for a bus for me also lol, but I'm sure I will have to wait tell hers is done.
well apparently I don't know how to do multiple quotes in one post lol |
