The amount of thought and detail you put into your posts truly amazes and inspires me. |

Looking good Steve. Nice attention to detail. Hopefully you won't have to redo your clutch hydraulics like Nate had to do. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Thanks for watching, guys.
And the thoughts..
It was indeed Nate who got me thinking about all of this.
Also, long ago, Shad Laws, who had issues with broken clutch cables on this 923-equipped Fastback.
Way back in 2003 or so... _________________ Bus Motor Build

|
|
Welp, Yesterday was a whole day..
Yes, this thread drags on and on, becoming more tiresome with each post.
If you think it's drab reading, you should try living it!
ANyways, if I spend at least 1/2 a day on the car, I post up what I did,
And here we have a whole day, even though it doesn't seem like it.
Sunoco Purple leaded race gas.. The best parts cleaner of all.
Notice also the little brake line on the end of my blow-nozzle for removing blasting media, without removing galley plugs.
It gets even the very bottom of the ribs in the case clean clean.
First bolt turned!
Re-assembly has officially started!
VROOM!! VROOM!!
This shows how many tools I can end up getting out just to do something little like clearancing the clutch cable tube..
Even though I'll hopefully never need it,
I couldn't resist another try at the gasket for the hydro master cover.
Love it how the silver sharpie marks the rubber.
I figured it's going to be SO no fun to do after the car is together,
That finishing it now would prevent ever having to do it, right?
Reverse Murphy..
Here it is -almost- finished.
After all of that, it became time for a milestone of sorts-
Pulling the pan off of the cart(!)
Mock-up is done. it has all been test-assembled.
William can't resist giving it a wipe-down.
Shiny black. Wipe wipe.
Cart is due to go to the painter's here pretty soon;
Will go to good use when it comes time to shoot the shell.
Putting it up on the cart will make things like dash and door jambs much easier.
Pan can sit sideways out of the way now.
Until it's getting close to time for the shell to come home,
We'll leave it here vs. final-assembling just yet
(plenty of other things to do).
See also motor coming together and finished trans.
Also going to move a couple of motorcycles here now that there's more room
(Nature abhors a clean spot).
Now that the Sportster has been in the way for a while, it seems to be getting shinier for some reason?
My OCD just won't let me walk by it too many times without touching ..
Getting dark at the end of the day,
And it -feels- like we're actually getting somewhere?

Nice progress Steve. Every little bit helps in the long run, as that's something else that doesn't have to be done later. Also like you said, it's easier to do now while the body is off. Keep at it, you're getting closer. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

|
|
Tuesday was my day off...
A bunch of petty details with getting things back together.
Cleaning things, digging for lost parts, test-fitting, etc.
Spent way too much time getting this sender properly grounded.
Powder coat is a great insulator.
Here's a magnesium cam gear i found in my stash;
Threw it into the trash.
VW replaced these with the aluminum gear shown.
And it says so.
It should say to throw the old one in the trash.
Notice Web is polishing the thrust area on their cams now.
Enough lost the thrust on their cam bearings that it came home to roost no doubt.
Cam-only mock-up.
(not really sure why i took a pic of this.. )
Something i never knew about Curil T;
It's fuel proof!
Not even Sunoco purple can cut it
(Carb cleaner -eventually- does).
Kinda thought this shot was artsy.
End-play at 3 1/2.
A shot of a workbench.
Notice my youtube station for Billy Preston's Outa Space.
Nothing like Billy Preston when doing final assembly.
And the obligatory main bearing measuring session shot..
Coming (back) together.. _________________ Bus Motor Build

Doing what you love doing best. It's not work if you love what you're doing. Plus all off the previous mock up sessions are paying off now. Getting there. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Yeah, at this point it's just falling together.
Measurements are just for sanity check and to make me feel good.
It really just needs assembled, like in the old days when you could trust the parts.

Well now you’ve done it. Now I have lame dad jokes swirling through my head. Perhaps “Rocker” out to this while you dealing with your “Pushers”
Looks fantastic Clatter. Well done

Hey! Super Pan has been moved
I do have to admit that Im a little disappointed. I thought I would see atleast 3 maybe four pages of you polishing the inside of the case. But no you just cleaned it with some gas. Lame.
Super Anal is fun to watch sometimes. Been lurking this thread for what? ten years, nah only four.
As my UK friends say - Just having a piss.
As my South African friends say - Eh? Fu&k my dog.
I thought I had you beat on long term projects. I started my 74 Westy in 2010 Eight bloody years that I need to take a shit or get off the pot on. Then I saw this little sweetheart on page one.
Quote: |
Here's a loooong term project I been picking at for about six(?) years.
Because I suffer from Parenthood, Poverty, Matrimony, Color-blindness, and Servitude, among other afflictions, this has to take place when she says so. |
You got me by two years brother.
Ok, joking aside. There are not may concepts or creations I like on the Samba. This one I always have. Its a car, that if you actually ever finish, Id like a go at driving it and maybe own if it were possible.
Keep up the good fight. _________________
