Anyone know what this bumper is? It looks like it was meant to be, but definitely like a home hack too. _________________ '71 Shantung Yellow AT/FI Squareback |

I figurei t's added on but it's so well done it's crazy. I really like the look, and if it wasn't in Grants Pass I'd pick it up. As Phil said in my other thread however, it does look to also have a little trim/fin on the hood that looks neato, and also dual back bumper guards, because someone wanted to be safe.
You can see the hood trim better in this pic.
Funky rear bumper setup.
The only cool rare Type 3 part I have still is some Huls camping hinges. I'm always on the lookout for T3s for sale with rare stuff since getting my hinges _________________ '71 Shantung Yellow AT/FI Squareback |

And here I thought I had found the Uber rare double decker type 3 bumpers. _________________ I'd be UNSTOPPABLE if not for Law Enforcement and PHYSICS.

Think I found the answer. They look to be split 2nd gen Camaro bumpers. Not 100% sure but closest thing I could find. Really cool mod! _________________ '71 Shantung Yellow AT/FI Squareback |

Mercedes W108/109 rear upper bumperettes:
I would have mounted them closer to the main blade, myself.
The W108 rear one is the one in the back with the rubber impact strip. The front one is a W111 Coupe pre 1968.
Here's another view:
Definitely NOT Camaro. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Ah! Spot on! You can just barely make out the top ridges from the picture I posted that are on the 108 bumperettes. Good call. I really quite like it but I agree, closer to the blade. Thanks for letting me use up space here, guys, I figured maybe it was some random country's weird part at first. _________________ '71 Shantung Yellow AT/FI Squareback |

It IS an interesting look- and the longer front ones look like they would possibly work with the rear bumper since they're contoured to possibly go around the "peak" in the rear fender that's in line with the taillight/ rear reflector. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

I honestly might have to buy some crummy Mercades bumpers now and give it a whirl. _________________ '71 Shantung Yellow AT/FI Squareback |

Here's the front bumper with the contoured uppers:
Might actually fit around the tail light areas quite well and give the bumper more of a "wrap" around the sides, mimicking the wraparound reflectors.
If you ever get down Eugene/ Springfield way I have a bunch of these bumpers and you could do a mock up.
Am I correct in thinking you have a second design (late model) car? If so, these might look good laid right on top of the bumper with just the short original spacers. The late bumpers with the center rubber impact strip resemble the W108 main bumper blades, too... this could work! _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

I do! I also have a early model front bumper, but it's got over riders on it. The 72 has a good non-over rider rear and the 71 has an over rider rear. I'll let you know one of these days. I was going to come down tomorrow for the swap but I've not got the cash to make the drive right now. Ah well. _________________ '71 Shantung Yellow AT/FI Squareback |

My NOS Type 3 1500 front Swedish Gravel Guards
these are the early style, notice they have more
tabs than than just 3 also box just says 1500 and
not 1500 / 1600.
I was wondering who else has this same kind with more than 3 tabs?
|
Anyone interested in selling a set of these? I have the rear Swedish guards. |

This is what I wrote about it back in 2017 in my 64 notch thread.

Real vs Reproduction
One of my all time favorite accessories for the T3 is gravel guards or rock/stone guards. About 12ish years ago it seems that the limited T3 market had an influx of front/rear nos Swedish ones to buy. Rear ones were kinda easy to find as they were a EMPI repop for awhile, but front ones seemed to be a Swedish thing.
The set I had nos in the box were put on my 63 notch that was sold long ago. Like the full circle ring - these have made a comeback in reproduction form.
I purchased a set of front/rear reproduction from aircooled accessories and was very pleased with the quality. They are easily spotted with their AAC stamp on them in the metal. A stamp that will tell collectors their origin.
I mention this because they did an excellent job in reproducing them. So good the average joe could not tell unless the stamp was there.
So if you are in the market for Gravel Guards - I recommend the AAC repops as they will cost you about 1/3 to 1/2 less then these real ones.

I'd prefer an original set. |
